Re: [Evergreen-general] Permission reset question

2024-05-03 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
I think doing it on the database side would be the easiest and cleanest way
- updating individual permissions through the staff client is a bear just
because the list is so long, and it would be easy to miss removing some.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Feature idea for patrons accounts; Personalized Carousels

2024-04-17 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
I feel fairly certain this would be a pretty massive project to come up
with a way to determine recommendations and may or may not be worth the
time and development expense since there are third party vendors that
already do similar things as part of their core business. Syndetics and
NoveList added content will both provide recommendations at the title or
author level (ie, you look up a book you liked and it will recommend others
that are available to you through the library), and then there are other
companies that can generate recommendations based on personal reading
history - that is going to depend on providing them with a certain amount
of user data though, and that gets really tricky with patron
confidentiality.

Of course, users can also download their reading history as a CSV file and
upload it to GoodReads themselves if they are somewhat savvy - this could
probably made easier with a relatively small development project to allow
patrons to export their booklist in a format that was specifically
compatible to goodreads so they wouldn't have to do any editing to it
(unless they wanted to) after they downloaded it.

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week Winding Down

2024-03-22 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Thank you so much to everyone who participated for making this Bug
Squashing Week another productive one! I'll send out the final numbers on
Monday and include any further updates that come in before then.

A few things of note for up and coming features and fixes:

   - The new, Angularized version of the Reports Interface is up and
   running on https://butternut.evergreencatalog.com/eg/staff and is
looking great! There is some testing feedback entered so far, so please put
it through its paces and add any issues you find to

   https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1993823

   - A fix has been signed off on that will prevent staff from submitting
holds with invalid pickup locations (yay!)
   - A new feature that allows carousel creation from item buckets has been
tested and signed off on (yay!)
   - The time it takes to batch edit items and call numbers from Item
Status has been cut down drastically (yay!)

And many more improvements have been made! The full list is at:

   - 15 committed to core Evergreen.
   - 19 new or updated proposed fixes
   - 5 new bugs reported
   - and 80 testing comments / tags / bug updates added

There are still 37 proposed fixes / features loaded onto test servers that
need to be fully tested out, so if you have a little time this week, please
pick one and put it through its paces!

As always, if you're not sure how to test or provide feedback, feel free to
contact me off list.

Happy Squashing!

Re: [Evergreen-general] Stripe Duplicate Charges

2024-03-13 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
I read about that a while back, but I was under the impression that it
would only solve double-click types of problems, not problems where the
patron is actually filling out the form again. Is it just that we'd need to
design the idempotency key in a way that it generated the same key if the
scenario was the same? Like a combination of the patron ID and the amount
and the date or something like that?

 Hi Everyone,

Since moving to Stripe Payment Intents with our upgrade in early
January, we've seen issues with duplicate charges to the patron for the
 same billing in Evergreen.

I've searched Launchpad, but haven't found a relevant bug.

Have others experienced similar issues since moving to Payment Intents?

 For reference, bug 1894005
  *Wishlist: Add
support for Stripe Payment Intents* was released in Evergreen 3.8.

Also, for reference, these two followup bugfixes:

 bug 1965579 - Stripe
 Payment Intents and Negative Bills
 bug 1981628 - Follow
up to Stripe payment intents bug

 Thanks for any insight!

 Michele

Re: [Evergreen-general] Stripe Duplicate Charges

2024-02-27 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
We still see it sometimes when a patron has a negative bill on their
account (even when the overall balance isn't negative).
The current code shouldn't even be showing the payment option if there are
any negative bills, but somehow some patrons are still getting the option.
We have been on the new code for a long time (more than 2 years?) so the
only thing we can think of is that those patrons must be using an old
device that is stubbornly hanging onto a locally cached version of the
page. But we haven't been able to recreate the problem, so it's really
frustrating to troubleshoot.

As far as I can tell, what is happening is that the patron somehow loads
the old version of the page that didn't do the negative bill check, pays,
Stripe accepts the payment but it's the wrong amount, so when Stripe sends
it to Evergreen it fails. Then the patron sees that Evergreen didn't accept
it and they pay again (still the wrong amount), causing their credit card
to be charged again.

Hi Kevin!

I don't have direct experience, but I know most of our libraries are using
Chromeboxes for public computers and LibData for their print & session
management.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Sharing plans for changing library selector in Angular staff catalog

2024-01-23 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
About disused Org Units - even after a branch closes completely and all of
the active materials and patrons have been moved off of it so we don't want
it to appear in most dropdown lists, we sometimes still need to run reports
on it. It would be nice to have the option in the reporter to include
non-staff-visible branches. Maybe that is as simple as adding a new report
source in the fieldmapper that can be used instead of the normal Org Unit
source when desired?

You could use the image uploader, but if there are thousands of records
that would be burdensome.

Thank you for letting me know - I can confirm that OPAC search isn't
working on that server for some reason. It is working within the staff
client, so I will have to do some research.

[Evergreen-general] Evergreen Feedback Fest Starts NOW!

2023-11-06 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everyone!

This week is Evergreen Feedback Fest! We have multiple test servers
prepared for you to put what will potentially be Evergreen 3.12 through its
paces, and test out a whoole lot of recent bug fixes and features that
have been developed. The development community has been busy, so please
pitch in and test some of these proposed changes so that we can make 3.12 a
great update!

Here is the testing spreadsheet;
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1D4LiBJZzyeuczWCwYhG0VdaJ4UlK5CaTMKg4mO_hH2U/edit#gid=0

Brief guide to testing:

   1. The list of available test servers is in the first column, with the
list of which fixes/features are loaded onto that server to the right. Each
test server is loaded with stock Concerto
    data.
   2. Pick a bug fix that you are interested in testing and carefully read
the description and comments on the associated Launchpad link.
   3. Log into the test server to thoroughly test the fix. Be sure to log
in with different levels of users in case there are issues with
   permissions.
   4. If you find problems, add your comments to the Launchpad ticket.
   5. If you don't find any problems, you may sign off on the code through
Git or add a comment to the Launchpad bug that says "I have tested this
code and consent to signing off on it with my name, [enter name or
consistent alias] and my email address, [enter email address]."

[Evergreen-general] Save the Dates: Evergreen Feedback Fest!

2023-10-26 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everybody!

The next Evergreen Community Feedback Fest will be held November 6 through
10. This will be your chance to test out the new bug fixes and features
that are targeted to go into Evergreen 3.12 which will be released in
December.

We will make several test servers available with sample data and proposed
code changes loaded onto them so you can get a sneak peek, report any
problems you see, and confirm whether the new code fixes what it says it
will.

The test servers aren't set up yet, but they will be listed here along with
what fixes / features are loaded onto each one on this tracking sheet here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1D4LiBJZzyeuczWCwYhG0VdaJ4UlK5CaTMKg4mO_hH2U/edit#gid=0

For more information about general Feedback Fest / Bug Squashing
activities, please see:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing

Cheers!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] Staff training

2023-09-19 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
My suggestion is to put the emphasis on how much it will improve the patron
experience by being able to offer them so many more titles than they
currently have access to.

We have done resource sharing in Georgia since the beginning of PINES and
one of the things that we have found is that oftentimes the less
well-funded libraries that can't afford all of the new books end up being
really valuable for holds because they may have some of the older titles
that other branches have weeded.

Also, if you are using age protection, then staff can be sure that their
local patrons are still getting the brand new items first.

Re: [Evergreen-general] School Age Library Card

2023-08-22 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
We have a special program that partners libraries with schools and we use a
prefix for the district (like SAV for Savannah) combined with their student
lunch card number (which is unique within that district and which the
students already know). We use a special permission group with its own circ
rules for this and we do not issue physical cards. Some of the schools
issue physical cards that show their school ID/lunch card, but many do not.

[Evergreen-general] Happy Bug Squashing Week!

2023-08-21 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Good morning!

Bug Squashing Week has begun and I there are already folks who have dived
in to begin updating Launchpad tickets.

The list of community test servers with the fixes and features that have
been added to each is available here - one of them is ready to go and a
couple of others are being built:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kAdsJ9Hk9iW6cW9S9uAiosutIo_eBtFE7zRQy8iczbY/edit?usp=sharing

See the top of the first tab for useful links (general overview, list of
logins for the test servers, old bugs that need to be checked for validity,
new bugs that haven't been confirmed yet, etc.)

Happy Squashing!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] Ways to handle shelving location names?

2023-08-11 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
We give permissions to designated staff at each library system to manage
their own shelving locations and they can name them whatever makes sense
for the patrons in that building.

We've found that it works best to have the shelving locations set at the
branch level. If you do this, the library can control the settings for a
very specific location. For example, if there needs to be a building repair
done in the YA FICTION section at one branch, the shelving location can be
temporarily made non-OPAC visible and non-holdable without affecting the
rest of the branch or affecting any other branches that use the same
shelving location name.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Is anybody interested in talking about Aspen discovery?

2023-06-28 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
This is something that we are interested in talking about. My understanding
is that Aspen cannot currently support consortiums that have different
resources for various systems unless each system has its own landing
page/subdomain, so it wouldn't work for us as-is. Because of that, we
haven't dug any further into what other features would be lost if we used
it.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Evergreen-general Digest, Vol 35, Issue 22

2023-06-12 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
My understanding is that the number of Claims Returned does not go down
intentionally because the idea was that each patron gets X number of Claims
Returns over time and if they take advantage of it then they get stopped
from making more. It was never intended to be a count of the current number
of Claims Returns.

I know that DIG volunteers have created an overall spreadsheet to track
what documentation is needed, so I would ask on the DIG list to see if this
topic is on the spreadsheet or not, and if so, where it will fit in. The
easiest way to do this is by emailing

[Evergreen-general] May Feedback Fest Recap

2023-05-15 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Many thanks to everyone who participated in last week's Evergreen Feedback
Fest!

42 community members participated testing and providing feedback, updating
patches, and reporting new issues. Evergreen 3.11 looks like it's going to
be a great release!

The summary page is here - please let me know if I've inadvertently left
you off the list or spelled anyone's name wrong!

https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing:2023-05

Best wishes,
Terran

[Evergreen-general] More patches ready to test!

2023-05-12 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everybody,

I've just rebuilt my test server with several more updated patches that are
ready to test!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_rY6LGxQQpU2maE3Hcm4lGCt1ol0Tt_gS8NloI72hGM/edit#gid=0

Progress has been solid this week so far, with 15 patches tested, signed
off, and committed to master, and another 4 patches tested and signed off.

I'll leave my test server up over the weekend in case anyone is working and
wants to extend their testing period a little longer!

Cheers,
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Feedback Fest - new fix may be able to close multiple tickets

2023-05-11 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everyone,

There are a number of places in the Angular screens (particularly in the
Admin pages) where attempting to create/edit/delete an entry without the
proper permissions gives a Success popup when it should actually be a
failure popup: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1808016

Jane created a fix for this which has now been committed to current master
(as of a few minutes ago) and it is installed on
https://terran-master.gapines.org/eg/staff

I'm sure there are a number of other launchpad tickets that can now be
tested to see if they are resolved with this fix. If you identify one and
can verify on terran-master that it is now fixed, please add a comment to
the ticket that says something like, "Fixed with the patch for bug 1808016"
and change the status of the ticket to "Won't Fix."

Thank you!
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Feedback Fest: Wednesday Update

2023-05-10 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Good morning!

Feedback Fest is going steadily so far this week, but there are still a lot
of opportunities for testing!

The spreadsheet is at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_rY6LGxQQpU2maE3Hcm4lGCt1ol0Tt_gS8NloI72hGM/edit#gid=0

Of note:

   - EOLI's Festivus Server was refreshed this morning with the latest
updates and is ready for additional testing in preparation of the 3.11
release. Remember, the more issues that are found now, the fewer issues
there will be at upgrade time!
   - Tiffany's server is currently down and will be refreshed with new
   patches to test later today.
   - Terran's server has the experimental Angular Circulation menu enabled
so you can test that out to see how it works so far.
   - Terran's server has 3 bug fixes and 1 new feature loaded and ready to
   test.
   - MOBIUS's server has a whole bunch of patches loaded and ready to test.

Thanks everyone!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] Staff Portal page customization

2023-05-09 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
We've done ours. We customized the default one at the consortium level, and
then allow certain permission groups at the libraries to customize their
own. The main thing to know is that it doesn't inherit from the higher
level, so if you customize one thing at a branch, you lose everything else.
Here are our instructions:

[Evergreen-general] Evergreen 3.11 Feedback Fest Week Starts Now!

2023-05-08 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everyone!

Now is your chance to take a test run of Evergreen 3.11!

A couple of test servers are up and ready to test 3.11 plus assorted
proposed bug fixes and features (be sure to scroll all the way down the
page for all of the test servers - "EOLI Server 2" only has one small
change on it in addition to the 3.11 beta version, so that is a good one to
test your typical workflows on). Here is the list of test servers along
with the list of proposed fixes and features that are applied to them:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_rY6LGxQQpU2maE3Hcm4lGCt1ol0Tt_gS8NloI72hGM/edit?usp=sharing

These test servers are all loaded with a set of fake data ("Concerto") and
have basic configurations so they may not be configured exactly the same as
your live system. The list of Concerto staff logins as well as an overview
of ways to participate in Feedback Fest are linked at the top of the
spreadsheet.

Please report any issues you find in Launchpad (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen).

Please feel free to reach out to me directly at
tmcca...@georgialibraries.org if you have any questions about how to test,
how to report bugs, how to search Launchpad for existing reports, how to
sign off, or anything else!

Happy testing!
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Feedback Fest Next Week!

2023-05-02 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hey everybody!

The next community Feedback Fest is next week from Monday, May 8 through
Friday, May 12. We will have several test servers up with the current
Evergreen code loaded on them and give you a chance to test the new
features and interfaces in preparation for the release of Evergreen 3.11.
The more you test now, the better the release will be!

We will also load some proposed bug fixes and proposed wish list changes
onto some of the test servers for testing. And, as always, more people are
needed to help add authorized tags to Launchpad tickets that don't yet have
them, test old bug reports to see if they are still valid, confirm bug
reports that haven't yet been verified, etc.

I'll send out the list of test servers and more details Monday morning!
Thanks all!

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week - Friday Update

2023-03-03 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everyone!

Testers have done a wonderful job this week and there are only a handful of
installed fixes / features loaded onto the test servers that still need
more eyes on them (note that some of them have some testing feedback
already in the Launchpad tickets, so review that to see what issues have
already been reported):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i7CeyfgmlLgWk_3yyqQhK7PR0kMvGVUM5-nEL9BvTNU/edit#gid=0

If you don't feel that you have the expertise to test any of those patches,
then I would encourage you to spend a little time review Launchpad tickets
and

1) Check old bugs to see if they are still valid in the newest version of
Evergreen:
https://bit.ly/3ILNAXR

2) Check bugs with the New status to see if you can confirm them or add
heat to them: https://bit.ly/3T1bYd3

Thank you!

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week: Tuesday Update

2023-02-28 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Bug squashing is cruising along fantastically so far this week!

A whopping 27 fixes have been tested and signed off already, and 7 of those
have already been given a final review by a core committer and committed to
the core code!

Status of the three test servers:

Terran - I'm going to take my test server down and rebuild it with a fresh
set of patches

Tiffany - Most patches have been tested, but there are still two (one Acq
and one Cat that need more eyes on them)

MOBIUS - There are still plenty of patches loaded and ready to test!

Here is the full list:

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week Starts Now!

2023-02-27 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hi everyone, and welcome to the first Bug Squashing Week of 2023.

There is one test server running current master (3.10+) with a number of
proposed bug fixes and features installed on it that are ready for testing,
and another test server is currently being built. These test servers have
the Concerto data set installed. Details at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i7CeyfgmlLgWk_3yyqQhK7PR0kMvGVUM5-nEL9BvTNU/edit?usp=sharing

Also, please take a look at the links at the top of that page that go to
lists of new bugs and wish list requests that have been reported but not
yet reviewed and confirmed, and also old bugs that need to be checked to
see if they are still valid in the current version or if they have already
been resolved (for instance, some of the newer interfaces may have fixed
old bugs as part of their development).

More general info about adding tags, signing off on fixes, and other bug
squashing activities that you can contribute a little of your time to this
week are available at:

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week Next Week!

2023-02-21 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Our first Bug Squashing Week of 2023 will be next week, February 27 -
March 3.

We will have several community test servers available to test proposed bug
fixes and new features, and since 3.10 has been released, it will be a good
time to go through existing Launchpad tickets to test to see if they have
been fixed in the newer interfaces. (And, also a good time to add heat to
existing bugs and wish list requests that you think should be prioritized!)

If you are working on polishing up any patches yourself, please do your
best to get them submitted for testing by the start of Bug Squashing Week
so that we can try to get them up on one of the community test servers for
everyone to take a look at.

On Monday morning I will send out a message that has the list of available
test servers and which patches are loaded onto each one so that you can
begin using them to test.

More general info about Bug Squashing Week activities is available here:

[Evergreen-general] Thursday Bug Squashing Update

2022-11-03 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hello everyone!

Some updates for this week:

   - Evergreen 3.9.1 has been released with a very long list of bug
fixes! Thank you to everyone who participated and to Galen Charlton for
doing the live release cutting / translation building session this week!
   https://evergreen-ils.org/egdownloads/
   - Evergreen 3.10 beta will be available soon after a few more tweaks
(Kudos to Jane Sandberg and Michele Morgan and Galen Charlton!)
   - There are still a number of patches that are loaded onto mine and
Blake Graham Henderson's test servers that haven't been tested yet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UigdTW760xrwFSl2ENzyAQWiCZd5uzMDJUtAvqMBVFA/edit#gid=0
   - Bill Erickson has pushed up the first two bug fixes for the
Experimental Angular Circulation interface (combined into one pullrequest)
and I have loaded those onto my test server (see link above).
   - Please try to poke around existing functions on one of these test
server since they are both 3.10ish to see if you spot any other bugs we can
get fixed before 3.10 gets publicly released.

Thanks everyone!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] Questions About Customizing the New Print Templates

2022-11-03 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Are you having any issues saving multiple versions of the same template at
different org unit levels? (Like the default consortium one, then a
different branch one?) I haven't tried this in a while, but I had issues in
3.8 with saving various versions of the holds pull list. We also have
issues where different workstations in the same branch need to print the
same receipt in different ways, which doesn't appear to be an option at all
with the new interface. A couple of bugs I've opened:

[Evergreen-general] Evergreen Bug Squashing Week - Tuesday Update

2022-11-01 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Well, Halloween is over but bug squashing never stops! Some updates:

   - 10 patches got tested and signed off on yesterday (woo hoo!)
   - There are two test servers loaded up with more things to test at

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UigdTW760xrwFSl2ENzyAQWiCZd5uzMDJUtAvqMBVFA/edit#gid=0
   - Galen will be guiding us through a session on Release Cutting for
anyone who is interested today at 3pm Eastern:
   https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81969122485?pwd=S3RLVDJ0VVBBNzc5Nm50WnR5OEdUZz09
   - Evergreen 3.10 looks like it's going to be a solid update with a lot
   of useful updates: https://bit.ly/3Wkn6CQ
   - Bill's work on Angularizing the patron & circ interfaces will be
included as an optional 'experimental' interface in 3.10. Having this code
allows some other features to use some of his underlying improvements and
also makes it easier for others to contribute to fixing the remaining
   issues. https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1995399

Cheers!

give them one last poke! Some of the new interfaces that have been
committed to master are:

If you have any questions about how to test or provide feedback, feel free
to email me directly.

Happy testing!

[Evergreen-general] Feedback Fest: Testing new Patron & Circulation Interfaces

2022-09-29 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Good morning!

Bill Erickson has provided a fresh test server with his current work on the
new patron / circulation interfaces:

Test server:
https://evgdemo.kcls.org/eg2/staff/

Please use the Concerto logins for testing:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=qa:concerto_logins

Testing sheet (report your testing results here - click the button to
request edit access if you need it):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PL04fcjom0l2xuum_Do-w04asn-ifAEHwuBY6yWIESQ/edit#gid=0

Testing notes:

- On the "Tasks to Test" sheet and on the "Patron Reg Display and Settings"
sheet, the orange cells failed testing in the last round, but could be
tested again on the current version.
- On the "Tasks to Test" sheet and on the "Patron Reg Display and Settings"
sheet, the items in gold have not yet been tested. (Some of these may not
be able to be tested at this time.)
- If you find issues that are not covered on those two sheets, please add
them to the "Other Testing Feedback" sheet.

Please let me know if you have any questions about testing!
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Evergreen Feedback Fest Begins Today!

2022-09-26 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Good morning, everyone! This week is Evergreen Feedback Fest, where the
community gets together to test all of the current code as well as
potential code that may make it into Evergreen 3.10. Links of note:

*1. Current Test Servers*
There are three test servers up and running (Terran's Test Server,
Tiffany's Test Server, and MOBIUS's Test Server) with the current Evergreen
code plus additional proposed bug fixes and features that need to be
tested. Feedback on each item to be tested should be added to its
associated Launchpad ticket.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r0RyFB_Sj1RHdVacylCNBt-YS3S7VlXguWYWMqk40so/edit?usp=sharing

*2. Logins and Data*
Each of the test servers has the Concerto test data installed, which is a
limited set of records and fictional users. The user names and passwords
for each user are available at:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=qa:concerto_logins

*3. General Testing Overview and Instructions*
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing

*4. Attention to Launchpad Tickets*
There are currently 2,835 open Launchpad tickets. Things you can do to help
get that number down:

   - Review tickets with the "bootstrapblocker" and "staffcatalogblocker" -
these may need development or more information in order to move the new
OPAC and new staff catalog forward.
   - Review old tickets to see if they are still valid in current Evergreen
by testing against the provided test servers.
   - Add tags to any tickets that do not have tags.
   - Review tickets with the "New" status to see if you can confirm the
reported bug or wishlist request, or if they need additional information.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
Terran

Also, if a branch isn't open every day but others are open that day, and
your library settings are configured to bypass the branch when closed, then
the holds targeter can target a copy at a copy at a different location on

Evergreen release is as solid and reliable as possible. We will also load
newly submitted features and proposed bug fixes that need to be fully
tested before they can be added to the core code.

If you have have not participated in testing before, this is a great time
to get involved! There is more information at this page, and you can always
email me directly with any questions you have:

https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing

I'll send out more information about how to access the test servers and
what features/fixes have been loaded onto them closer to the start date.

Cheers!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] Are you using Hold Groups?

2022-08-23 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
In my opinion, the thing that would make Hold Groups much more usable would
be the ability to see all Hold Groups for a branch or system at once. As it
stands, when you pull up a list of existing hold groups it only shows your
own:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1955999

There is also some missing functionality in the Angular Staff Catalog that
still needs to be added for feature parity:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1918183

Re: [Evergreen-general] Are you using Hold Groups?

2022-08-22 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hold Groups are specialized User Buckets that allow you to save a group of
users that you want to be able to place holds for all at once. For example,
you could have a book club hold group that allows you to place each month's
selection on hold for all members at once instead of one patron at a time.
Or a list of patrons who want the next James Patterson book placed on hold
as soon as it is available.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Are you using Hold Groups?

2022-08-22 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
We have had them available since January, but not many of our libraries are
taking advantage of them.

We did a lot of internal testing before we rolled them out though, and I
thought they were really useful. There's a slight learning curve, but it's
not too bad.

Yes, there should be a separate perm for just UPDATE_BARCODE so that staff
with minimal circ perms can replace barcodes when needed without having
access to change other properties.

There is a wish list ticket for this:

Does the " | json" trick display everything that's actually available at
run time, or does it only display the fields that are in the print preview
scope data? Or does that depend on whether you're previewing or printing?

I've noticed differences here and there between what is available in the
preview scope data defined in
/var/web/js/ui/default/staff/admin/workstation/app.js and what is actually
available during printing.

Re: [Evergreen-general] One more receipt template question w/ a scoop of gratitude

2022-07-29 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
You could try using staff.pref_first_given_name and staff.pref_family_name
but I haven't actually tested to confirm they are available to a receipt.
If they aren't, then it would require a bit of development to flesh out
that data.

If they ARE available, you could do IF conditions as such:

(pasting screenshot since I suspect code snippets won't display in an email
properly)

I can't remember off the top of my head if you can use ternary operators in
print templates, but that would be more concise.

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week: One More Day!

2022-07-28 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
*Testing Status *
There have now been 38 patches signed off! Current state of test servers:

   - 12 more bug fixes have been loaded onto the community test servers and
   are ready to test!
   - 1 Hatch update is ready to test
   - The Angular Circ/Patron interfaces and Self-Check have been tested a
lot, but could still use more eyes on them.

Test server info:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMIU7TolaIc2PHR35g1uonudBLQkI3ED4r5BcCU8Xak/edit#gid=0

*Launchpad Bug Updates *

There are a lot of very old bugs in Launchpad that may no longer be valid,
and also a lot that have been reported by not independently confirmed, so
if you have a little time on Friday, it would be a great help if you took a
look at some of them.

   1. Go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen
   2. Pick an area you are familiar with to work on either by searching or
using the tags on the right.
   3. You can use the column headers to sort those by age or by status (if
you're not seeing all of the available columns, click on the little "gear"
icon to control what you see).
   4. Things you can do:
  - Check tickets that have a status of "New" - if you can verify the
problem (or if it's a wish list request, then you agree with the
request),
then click the pencil icon next to "New" under the Status column
at the top
and then select Confirmed. Feel free to add a comment with any additional
information or explanation as well. If you understand the ticket
but cannot
replicate the problem, please add a comment.
  - Check old tickets to see if they are still valid and add a comment.
For example: "Still a problem in Evergreen 3.9." or "No longer a
problem in
  Evergreen 3.9."
  - If you see tickets that do not have any tags, review the official
  tag list (https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:lp_tags) and
add at least one tag. This will make those tickets much more
discoverable.
If you are looking at the full list of tickets you can use the
gear icon to
display the Tags column and then click on the Tags header twice
to reverse
sort to see the ones with no assigned tags.

Thanks, everyone!
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week: Thursday Update

2022-07-28 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hey everybody!

Huge thank yous to everyone who has participated in Bug Squashing Week so
far!

*Testers: *
There have been 33 patches tested and signed off so far! Nice job! Plus, I
want to give a special shout out to the people who have been diligently
testing all of the Angular circ & patron interfaces: Lindsay Stratton,
Susan Morrison, John Amundson, Brett French, and Chrystal Messam. (If I
have overlooked your name, please let me know!)

Several of the test servers have been refreshed with additional patches to
test, so if you have some time today or tomorrow, please check the testing
spreadsheet for details:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMIU7TolaIc2PHR35g1uonudBLQkI3ED4r5BcCU8Xak/edit#gid=0

More testing is needed in a few areas of the new Angular circ interfaces,
particularly with the field display/requirement settings:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PL04fcjom0l2xuum_Do-w04asn-ifAEHwuBY6yWIESQ/edit#gid=218160358

*Core Committers: *
There are currently 54 patches that have been signed off. If each of you
could take on 3 or 4 of those, that would make that mountain into a
molehill! This is the list:

https://bit.ly/3oxOgqi

*Developers & Sys Admins: *
There are around 50 pullrequests for changes that can't readily be tested
by end users on a community test server. Some of them have been hanging
around for quite a long time and could really use some expert eyes on them
- if you scroll down on the pull request tab, you'll see them grouped at
the bottom:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMIU7TolaIc2PHR35g1uonudBLQkI3ED4r5BcCU8Xak/edit#gid=984932811

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week: Tuesday Update

2022-07-26 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hey all!

Testing has great momentum so far and 21 patches have been signed off - woo!

Three of the 6 test servers have had their patches fully tested, so they're
being updated with more shiny new patches. Here is the spreadsheet with all
of the test server info:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMIU7TolaIc2PHR35g1uonudBLQkI3ED4r5BcCU8Xak/edit#gid=0

Thanks to everyone that has contributed your time and expertise so far. If
you haven't had a chance to do any testing yet, there is still plenty of
time to jump in there!

As always, let me know if you have any questions about how to test or
provide feedback.

Cheers,
Terran

[Evergreen-general] Bug Squashing Week Begins Today!

2022-07-25 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
 Hi everyone!

This week (August 25-29) is Evergreen Bug Squashing Week, focused on
getting bug fixes tested and approved. Notes:

1) There are 4 test servers that are loaded up with bug fixes and new
features and ready to test. All of them have the Concerto test data set
installed. Details for all test servers and the list of changes each one of
them has installed are at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMIU7TolaIc2PHR35g1uonudBLQkI3ED4r5BcCU8Xak/edit?usp=sharing

2) With the exception of Bill's test server, please leave your feedback on
the related Launchpad ticket that is linked in the spreadsheet. I will
update this spreadsheet throughout each day with the testing progress.

3) For Bill's test server, there is a link to a separate list of task to
tests and you can provide feedback directly on that sheet - just click the
button to request Edit access and I will get notified and approve it for
you.

4) There are some handy links at the top to the Concerto logins you can
use, general bug squashing instructions and guidelines, etc. And of course,
you are welcome to take a look at other bug reports and patches that are in
Launchpad as well!

If you have any questions about how to test or provide feedback, feel free
to email me directly.

Happy testing!
Terran

Re: [Evergreen-general] 'ATTEMPT'

2022-07-21 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hello,

The email and text messages are customizable through the Notification
Action Triggers interface. The permissions to use that interface are
generally restricted to administrators, so I would recommend contacting
whoever is administering Evergreen for you with your wording change
requests.

I don't know if this may be helpful or not, but this is the wording that we
use on our notices:

Best wishes,

[Evergreen-general] Testing instructions for new Angular Circ/Patron interfaces

2022-07-15 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
Hello everyone,

Bill Erickson's work on the Angular circulation / patron interfaces is
nearly complete but will require thorough testing before it is included in
the next version of Evergreen to ensure that no functions are lost or
broken.

To assist with testing, Bill and I have each put up a test server and I've
created a spreadsheet breaking down all of the testing needs into (somewhat
distinct) tasks. The next Bug Squashing Week begins on July 25, but since
this is such a large project I wanted to give people a chance to get
started on testing before then.

Here is the sheet (instructions are on the first tab, tasks on the second
tab):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PL04fcjom0l2xuum_Do-w04asn-ifAEHwuBY6yWIESQ/edit?usp=sharing

Please feel free to contact me off-list if you have any questions about how
to test.

Thank you!
Terran

Some of our libraries do this by using the Survey function so they can not
only track who created it, but also who updated it

Re: [Evergreen-general] Setting up a trigger for overdue items notification

2022-05-03 Thread Terran McCanna via Evergreen-general
My first thought was perhaps the "Daily" granularity isn't set up in your
cron jobs properly.

Also, you may want to check the Trigger Event Environment (by clicking on
the action trigger title rather than on the row) to make sure it has all
the field paths you need.

This is how we have our 10-day notice set up:

*Trigger Event Environment:*
billable_transaction.summary
circ_lib
circ_lib.billing_address
target_copy.call_number
usr
usr.card
usr.home_ou
usr.home_ou.billing_address
usr.home_ou.hours_of_operation
usr.home_ou.mailing_address
usr.home_ou.parent_ou

*Settings:*
Owning Library: PINES
Name: 10 Day Overdue Email Notification
Hook: checkout.due
Enabled: (checked)
Processing Delay: 10 days
Processing Delay Content Field: due_date
Processing Group Context Field: usr
Reactor: SendEmail
Validator: CircIsOverdue
Context Bib Path: target_copy.call_number.record
Context Item Path: target_copy
Context Library Path: circ_lib
Context User Path: usr
Granularity: overdue-notices
Max Event Validity Delay: 11 days
Retention Interval: 6 mons

*Template: *
[%- USE date -%]
[%- user = target.0.usr -%]
[%- homelib = user.home_ou -%]
To: [%- params.recipient_email || user.email %]
From: [%- helpers.get_org_setting(homelib.id, 'org.bounced_emails') ||
homelib.email || params.sender_email || default_sender %]
Reply-To: [%- helpers.get_org_setting(homelib.id, 'org.bounced_emails') ||
homelib.email || params.sender_email || default_sender %]
Date: [%- date.format(date.now, '%a, %d %b %Y %T -', gmt => 1) %]
Subject: [PINES] Overdue Library Materials

Attention: [% user.first_given_name %] [% user.family_name %]
Card Number: [% user.card.barcode %]

Our records indicate the following items are 10 days or more overdue.

[% FOR circ IN target %]
 [%- copy_details = helpers.get_copy_bib_basics(circ.target_copy.id) -%]
 Title:[% copy_details.title FILTER ucfirst %]
 Author: [% copy_details.author FILTER ucfirst %]
 Call No: [% circ.target_copy.call_number.label %]
 Barcode: [% circ.target_copy.barcode %]
 Checked Out At: [% circ.circ_lib.name %]
 Due Date: [% date.format(helpers.format_date(circ.due_date),
'%m-%d-%Y') %]

[% END %]

Overdue fines will continue to accrue until items are returned. Items may
be returned and fines paid at any PINES member library. Some libraries also
accept online payments at: https://gapines.org/login

If you have any questions, please contact your home library at:

 [% homelib.parent_ou.name %]
 [% homelib.name %]
 [%- SET addr = homelib.mailing_address -%]
 [%- IF !addr -%] [%- SET addr = homelib.billing_address -%] [%- END %]

 [% homelib.phone %]
 [% homelib.email %]

 [%- SET liburl = helpers.get_org_setting(homelib.id, 'lib.info_url')

 [% liburl %]

(Please have your library card number available.)
