Thanks for your replies... I'm almost positive that I did run the
install script as root. (Would it have really gone through the whole
process if I wasn't root?) Well, it's a moot point anyway 'cuz I tried
it again and this time it seems to have worked... at least all the

Hi I have the turn key system installed. If you go to the web site or
look in the untarred directory of TKLA there is a docs section. you can
navigate and find there a listing of all the applications. Then do a
search for each application. For example audacity or rt etc. I did this

Hi,
I have recently installed SuSE Linux 8.0 on my Intel P4 system with

Hi Ben -
Unforunately, TKLA does not do the hardware
configuration on its own. Mandrake usually does an
excellent job (and the favored sound modules, ALSA,
are available by default, though they often need to be
setup in /etc/modules.conf).
There is an ALSA tutorial for Mandrake available on

Thanks for the tip, but I forgot to mention that I'd already tried

I'm hoping someone can help me... I'm having a bitch of a time getting
TKLA to work. I had Mandrake 9 installed and downloaded and installed
TKLA but couldn't get any sound out of my computer, even after checking
every setting and reading every FAQ, toot and How-to. I finally decided

alsamixer seems to be working okay, now.. Just not quite as I expected..
I am controlling the volume of the headphone output just fine, as well
as bass and treble and "Wave".
However, gmix just doesn't seem to *have* these. It has "Pcm", which
doesn't do anything in alsamixer, nor does "Vol".. "Ba
Well, I removed the sound module and rebooted, but still no dice.. gmix
can't control anything.. Odd..

hmmm... i thought the problem might be in the aliasing since the mixer was behaving

looking at your module list, you have the sound module inserted - maybe that is
causing problems - try removing it with modconf. it might be superstition, but a

Hi, I just recently compiled and installed the alsa sound modules on my
machine.
It's an AMD 900, running debian stable, kernel 2.4.18. The sound card is
a Creative Sound Blaster Live! Platinum.
Currently, I am using:
alsa-driver-0.9.0rc6
alsa-lib-0.9.0rc6
alsa-utils-0.9.0rc6

I get the latest Alsa libs?
If you want to live at the bleeding edge then checkout latest ALSA CVS
sources, read instructions at http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=27464
Maybe just copying the CS46xx.conf file to /usr

Benny, is any reason why 'surround40' device doesn't work with the CS46xx
driver? The configuration is in alsa-lib/src/conf/CS46xx.conf .
That looks good to me. Doing some quick tests with xine surround40 seems
to work
just fine.

Hello List,
first the system:
it's a debian woody with self-compiled 2.4.19. Soundcard is:
00:0d.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI (rev 02)
It ran with alsa-driver-0.5.12a, alsa-lib-0.5.10b and alsa-utils-0.5.10

Hello there
I'm trying to get the vxpocket driver working. I've built alsa from cvs and i've got
all the pcmcia and alsa modules inserted:
snd-vxpocket 77344 0 (unused)
snd-vxp-lib26832 0 [snd-vxpocket]
snd-usb-audio 41456 0

Hi Chris,
I tried same thing before (via8233 - perhaps two months ago) and did not get it to
work either,
there was no actual mpu support in the 8233 nor in the first 82xx driver.
I got midi working in a different machine with the ens1371 - you should try to use
the midi port on that...
