I have on perhaps 5 occassions used 'amrmtape' followed by

Hello,
I did an upgrade from Amanda 2.4.4p3-3 (Debian sarge) to Amanda
2.5.2p1-4 (Debian lenny).
After this upgrade Amanda didn't take a new tape if a DLE failed because
of emty space on the current tape.
With Amanda 2.4.4 it took the next tape if it reaches the end of one

Hi,
I am getting confused (so what's new) about the first three lines a
report emailed by amdump sends me. I did several dumps in a row and
got these results.
These dumps were to tape DAILY-3.
The next tape Amanda expects to use is: DAILY-14.
The next new tape already labelled is: DAILY-4
about amadmin tape but there sometimes seems to be a
difference as to what amadmin and amdump use for the next tape.

Change your tapecycle to match how
I still get the same message.
I note that tapelist still shows tape Daily04 as 'reuse', even though I
amrmtape 'd it.
Provided you changed your amanda.conf so that it is now expecting 7 tapes,
you could edit the tapelist file and remove the bad tape from it.
tape should be. the last entry is the next tape. Assuming you have
entered a new tape number 4, you might ensure that is the last entry,
and the first field (date field) is the oldest date (the number zero
ought to do it!) you can use amcheck to test.
It's unfortunate that your tape drive
the first dump is
complete, Amanda says The next tape Amanda expects to use is Daily12.
Why isn't it asking for a new tape?
Don't know without seeing your tapelist and knowing what your tapecycle
is set to.

One simple way would be to do this a few hours before the real
amdump run:
amadmin config tape | Mail -s Amanda tapes needed whoever
I choose to do that using amcheck instead
I see several advantages: it emails automatically, check the tape
status, check the clients...
I taught my guys to
to
check for next tape name. I was just pointing out how the what tape
is next information (without the whole Amanda daily report) could be
sent to his operators so they would know what to mount.
And if they don't get the normal run mail, they also won't get the amcheck
I didn't like that tape mail so
1) How can I use gtar to backup directories with symbolic links ? For
example, \ in directory A, there are 3 symbolic links pointing to C,
D, E directories. Is \ it possible to backup those files in C, D, E?
Add a disk list entry for the absolute path at C, D and E
Hopefully tar will NEVER
schedule to change tape manually. They
will not receive amanda email to check for next tape name.
Different operations handle things in different ways, but it sounds to
me like it would be a good idea to let them know for sure what Amanda
is going to want. Otherwise Amanda is going to refuse the tape
manually. They will not
receive amanda email to check for next tape name.

Edward.
