Hi Bob, There are many reasons why the transponder constant varies somewhat. The temperature of the satellite is somewhat dependent on sun angle, periods of eclipse, etc. This usually results in a slow seasonal variation, most frequently seen in SSB satellites, but also in some cases in the

Interestingly, it looks like it's still in Mode B based on status reports, and hasn't switched to Mode A at all despite being in full illumination for more than 48 hours at this point. Even though it's not fully eclipsed at any point in it's orbit now, maybe it's still not receiving enough

I know there was some question as to why the satellite comes up in Mode B nearly all of the time after coming out of eclipse. The AMSAT-OSCAR 7 Technical Operator's Plan And Experimenter's Guide found starting on page 75 of this PDF ( http://ka9q.net/AMSAT-Newsletter-1974.pdf) says that the clock

I just heard it a few minutes ago in Mode B. Two stations on SSB, several CW, and a lot of FM'ing. I could barely hear my downlink on a 60* pass, so not sure what's going on. I was able to get into FO-29 earlier today FB, so I know my station is working. 73, Jim KQ6EA On 06/16/2013 03:52

FM'ing no batteries solar only so no regulation on the voltage bus, stations that can't hear keep turning up their power until they can hear and then the sat starts fm'ing because they are hogging all the available power and so others now have a hard time using the sat... age old story

Hi Kevin... If you go back in the list, about a year (or maybe 2, time flies), you will see very similar discussions as AO-7 went into full eclipse. At that time it always came out in Mode B until the eclipses shortened and then it started coming out random, probably depending in what mode it

I agree that many people use too much power. But, remember it is not just the output power that counts, it is also affected by the antenna gain. 10W into a dipole is about the same in terms of effective radiated power as 1W into a 12-13 dB gain Yagi. John WA4WDL
