Unfortunately, the ARDBC-implementation used to list the users does not
allow you to specify the User Name in the table-qualification, so you have
to go through all rows. This should be fairly quick, but could potentially

It seems like this scenarios is very common, at least at some companies:

report to the Service Desk.
So directly in their Rich Text/HTML based email client like Outlook, they built

Patchsk,Take a look at http://webserver:port/arsys/samples/StatusCheck.jsp.StatusCheck.jsp actually does exercise the web server, the AR server and the database. You can see the SELECT sent to the database by the MidTier user in your arsql.log, which means that all the components above that are

Subject: load balancer ars health check
Yes. The health checks from load balancer are typically easy to configure
to look at an http response code. The bad thing with this approach is that
you are making the availability of the arserver dependent upon the proper
functioning of an application stack (web server, servlet container, etc.)
Hi Geoff,
The recommendation on CLOBs is to have them inline. So the entry in the ar.conf
file should be:

The results cache is a new 11g feature... what I am referring to is to alter
the T tables related to the looukp ITSM forms so they are kept in the KEEP
Thanks Doug, but we can use this only when we are 100% web.
We do not want to tie the app load balancing with web.
Because we still have some users using the client, so there are scenarios
where a web maynot work but the app could still be working..
Also we are not always sure that our midtiers
Hi Geoff, one more thing:
If your clobs were not in row BEFORE you installated the ITSM apps, you may
want to contact BMC support so they give you the procedure on how to convert
out-of-row clobs into in-row clobs.
The ar.conf setting will not convert anything, it is only used when new
Good morning folks,
I've been trying to get SP2 up and running (just ARS for now) and have run into
lots of issues. I am working with BMC Support, although they aren't really
doing anything helpful or useful and are taking days just to respond to simple
questions.
In any case, I wanted to
Within the Service Request Management module, I need to create a report which
requires data from the SRM, SRD, WOI and TMS forms.
Here's what I know:

- the link between WOI and Task is in TMS:Associations
What I don't know is the link between SRM/SRD and

I recommend you drop IIS and use SSO Plugin's built-in AD integration,
which removes a piece of complexity. The last time I looked at the 64bit
build of the mod_jk ISAPI filter, it didn't work, and IIS is not doing
much for most users of Mid Tier.

I just did an install of SP2 on a Win 2008 / SQL Server 2008 system with no
particular problems but I didn't install Mid-Tier as this needed to be
deployed in Websphere via the midtier.war (on the same server as ARS)
I also did an SP1 - SP2 upgrade without the problems you had.

Thanks Axton for the information. I am checking with our loadbalancer guys
if they have any experience writing iRules.
Seems like this has been a pain for several customers.

I too have installed SP2 without (noticeable) issue on Windows 2008 with MS

The only errors I have noticed are the following (that I have learned to

If the web works, the AR server works and the database works too, and all is
well. If the web doesn't work, the AR server might still be functional, but in
any case you have to go investigate it :-). Not perfect for metrics, but good
enough for administrator's alarms.

One other caveat that I left off is that I am not using a Portmapper. While
investigating the issue, I've found that other people have run into similar
issues on prior versions of ARS when they were not using the portmapper. I had
to set ARS on a static port in order to prevent our backup
An f5 health check will drop the member from the pool, thus stopping all
traffic to it. It's a bit more extreme than an alarm for an administrator
to check. The goal with the health check is to add/remove pool members

All of my problems were with the Atrium and ITSM installers for Sp2 - an
inability of the Atrium installer to successfully restart the AR Server that
botched the rest of the install, and several incorrect assumptions about what
state some of the forms and views would be in after upgrading ITSM
