hi list,
we are running AR Syste, 7.5 patch 7 on a Solaris 10 box with a Sybase 15.
We would like to upgrade at some point to 8. Quiet soon.
But by then we still need our 7.5 installation.
My understanding is that I could install the AR System 8 on the same box
using a new DB on the same Sybase
Yes you can do that with following consideration:
1) Hardware requirement for 8.0 ( Refer 8.0 Installing Guide - Before you
install Topic)
2) Compatibility Matrix (OS / Database version-patch etc - refer 8.0
compatibility matrix doc)
3) licensing requirement, you need to purge 7.5 license key
of course we will use a new license key when the real upgrade will come.
Presently my intention is only to evaluate the product and see what it
looks like.
So my concern is really if i can safely install the AR System 8 (for
evaluation purpose of max 30 days) on the same box than my current

Then you are good, you can have 2 separate instances (one 7.5 and another 8.0)
on same box using same database server but separate db instance (tablespace -
e.g. ARSystem and ARsystem80)

Also if I remember it correctly you need to either have only 1 server with port
mapper or no server registered with port mapper to make sure you can connect to
both the server concurrently. Correct me if I am wrong here guys.

Remember the hardware requirements.. 16 gig for ITSM 8, so if you have
like 32 GIG of ram or more then you should be fine.
and if you have Reconciliation.. Well.. you better have alot of CPU's...
and it configured properly.. hope that helps..

When an Ad-Hoc approval is created and 3 aprovers are manually added then one
of the approvers rejects the other 2 approvals are closed and the Approval

Do you have some conditions that must be met? In your example of three
approvers, do they all have the same weight? For example, if the I.T. Manager

only thing that I'm trying to do is keep the process from completing when
the first approver rejects.

You should be able to do this with a Completion rule and 2 Statistical Override

HI All,
Have been around ARS 6.3 for a long time but moving to ITSM 7.6.04 is in some

Will the submitter ever become an entry in ctm:people?
If not, then you can create a service account or dummy user and hard code
the info in your integration.
If the user eventually becomes a record in your system and you want to
update the previous record, you could parse some field nightly
You may need to make changes to the Approval Process Definition for the Ad-hoc
approval process. View the approval process defined and check the 'If Multiple
Approvers' setting. If one must sign, it will cancel out the other approvals.
If All must sign then it will keep the other approval
Hi John!
That's not it. The leading zeros are still there. I get an error message
that the ClassID can't be BMC_PRINTER (or BMC_COMPUTERSYSTEM etc) and it
needs to be BMC_ASSETBASE. So I changed it in my .csv file and now I'm
able to import my changes. I then just change it back to
That's similar to what we do. ~25-30% of our incidents are created with that
form via email. I use the OOTB email engine and that form for ticket creation.
I handle all the logic of how the tickets are created prior to the email being
sent to Remedy. We have a faceless account called
Ok so do you have a suggestion for the Soap header that I can use?

The All Must Approve flag does not change the way rejections work but I
used the method suggested my Mr Greg Givens (strangely I got the same exact
suggestion from BMC at almost to the same time as Greg's post) and that
worked exactly as I wanted.
Thanks for all your helpful suggestions.

Does anyone know of a way to create overlays of all of the OOB AIF workflow at
once? I am not looking forward to right clicking on 179 AL's and selecting
'Create Overlay'. Normally I would just make copies and use these as I did in
pre 7.6.04, however BMC is recommending that I not do this.
Josh,
Not providing a solution here but looking for the reasoning behind this out
of curiosity.
I think 8.0 gives you the ability to overlay an entire application which
could do what you are saying.

Did anyone hear any good rumors at the RUG concerning the reports that BMC was

Hey Tauf,
I am creating AIF's for services that have criteria that cannot be met by a
standard SRD. BMC now recommends that instead of copying the OOB AL's,
Filters, and Guides (which is what BMC recommended be done before overlays were
introduced), you should attach your AIF's to the OOB
Ok so I tried creating an overlay of the SRM application and it did what I
thought it would. It created the overlay of just the application itself. It
did not touch the forms or any of the workflow associated with it. So at this
point I am back to touching each piece of workflow
My personal (as in don't make any decisions based on this, especially
financial) opinion is that since BMC shares have stabilized from the massive
freefall of last year and reached a bottom of around $31/share earlier this
year, potential buyers may wait to see if BMC's sales stabilize. I'm
Have you searched the ARS List archives. I seem to remember something about
using the Driver program to script creating overlays.

Don't know specifically about version 8.0
But have you looked into BPCU utility that comes with the installation?
There is command line option to include or exclude objects to create
overlays using an xml file or a prefix.
Again not offering a solution here but you might want to look into the
Developer community resources to see if there is a plugin developed and
available to achieve what you want to.. There is a lot of interesting stuff
there in terms of Dev Studio plugins that may save you time on something
