Re: I really don’t understand time signature Basically, the top number tells you the rhythm, and the bottom tells you how to read it. Occasionally you get weird rhythms like 5:8, which apparently people can recognize as distinct from a fast 5:4 because it's in the middle of a 4:4 or 2:4
