If I were you, I would look at an external DAC. If SB output sounds less
detailed, less brilliant... less like what you expect it to be and if
your CD player seems much better.
Be sure you play FLAC or other lossless format, make sure you compare
CD and SB with the same interconnect cable and

I hope that I am a fully recovered audiophile that is now a music lover.
I remember buying many CDs that sounded good though I hated the music.
Steve Winwood and Anita Baker (I was in my last years of High School and
early College) come to mind.

Maybe a Transporter is a better match your system? That said, it's also
got a neutral, analytic sound which you're coupling with the usual
'accurate' BW characteristics.

What would the meta data tags ideally be?
So long as it's all there and easily seperated (e.g. use '|'), peeps
can use mp3tag etc. to move tags about. IMHO, so use your example

What are you listening to the SB3 through? If you haven't arrived at
your perfect loudspeaker yet, I would put the $300 in a savings account
for that.
Over time I've come to appreciate the SB3

hi,
I name my WAV files like this:
e.g.
trackno - track - artist - album.wav
e.g.

that way the track squence keeps maintained...
My file system is tagged like this (folders):
MUSIC/GENRE/ARTIST/ALBUM/...tracks...
So I can find everything easily

why it's sounds lacking? Got to be a Troll...

Sorry about the vague language. Has anyone had a similar impression of

I like to think that I'm both an audiphile and a music lover. Given the
choice, without question I'd opt for number two, and I think you'd have

You could make it much more difficult (and the

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll give the preamp suggestion a

isn't anything to write home about- a Marantz DV7600 DVD/CD/SACD player.
It has more oomph than the squeezebox, but I know it isn't top of the
line either.
I'll pick option one. Really.
I've always liked music when it was on and had cds for the car, but was
never a music lover.
That is until I went to buy a HT setup and happened across an arcam on
