I have tested the Sb3 and the TP's spdif digital output side by side

Yes, sorry, another DAC reccomandation thread.
This week I bought a Transporter and was very much looking forward to
having it. I expected to hear a better sound stage than my DUET or SB3
and was hoping for more natural highs and maybe a bit more warmth and

All I would ask is whether it's fair to judge the TP based on what is
obviously a faulty unit?

Herbach Rademan sell a surplus power supply that outputs 5 volts at 2

You will have to change the output connector to one that will fit into
the SB.
The power supply will also accept different power cables, so you can
try different types to see if they make any changes in the

I'm not sure, but I think so. In between glitches, the sound seemed
o.k.. I can't imagine it would be degraded while it was playing. It
isn't a problem with the analog part

Make sure both are level balanced. Close is not good enough for a valid
comparison.

By level balanced you mean db levels with a sp meter, correct?

Can I go home now?
Just what I was looking for. Even better would be any recommendations
for something already terminated with the right power connector. I can
plug stuff in, but that's the limit to my tech ability.
Solder iron + me = bad things.
Thanks

Thanks, so it sounds like one vote for no difference between a SB and a
transporter used with an external DAC and one vote for it does make a
difference. My DAC mods are from Affordable Audio in Venice CA. this is

With a milestone birthday around the corner, I'm seriously considering

My opinion is that you've got the purchasing decisions in the wrong
order. Start with the speakers and pick the amp according to that. You
may even decide the very best speakers within your budget are active
speakers which means you will not need a separate amp (or more channels

Right, it was early and I should have said level matched. I send a 3K
test tone from each source and measure the voltage at the speaker
terminals.
