OK - some engineers do do things like this, but you get my point ;)
Then again - it's not my disk-space...
Do what you will with your drives if it makes you happy :)

Nah - they're not nearly so finely tuned to direction as other animals.
It's really really easy to fool the human ear direction-wise, which is
why stereo works.

FLAC and WAV sound identical.
FLAC takes up less space and can support useful tags.

, which tend to make Windows fall back to PIO mode
on the CD drive, causing problems. Now I'm using dbPowerAmp, and it
seems more thorough, although slower.
I never had any problems with AudioGrabber at lower speeds though. 8x
seemed fine.

You certainly don't need to spend 50k to get good computer sound.
MOTU units only cost around £1000.

that is something to think about - but otherwise I think these are
very impressive little amps for the money and a perfect match for the
SB3.

Ahhh - that makes much more sense!

very very surprised at the level of quality you get for a very small
outlay.
If you need balanced connections, grab the M-Audio Audiophile 192.
There are of course, some very, very expensive high-end interfaces out
there too...

I rip with AudioGrabber at 8x and then encode to FLAC with Flac
Frontend.

http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm
I then add genre tags and fix any tag problems with MP3Tag.

Works well for me.

BTW - I rip to wav at 8x speed with AudioGrabber. I couldn't get the EAC
ripper (which is often recommended) to work.
I then use 'Flac Frontend', along with the regular FLAC encoder, to
convert to FLAC.

AFAIK it's not possible to introduce any lossy compression into FLAC.
It would defeat the definition of the format after all! ;)

It depends on the chipset in your soundcard.
I rate the VIA Envy chipset in my Delta66 card quite highly and prefer
it to the sound of my Squeezebox's RCA outs.
The Squeezebox is superb for bedroom/kitchen etc use; but if you're
looking for hi-fi, the Transporter is there for you.

The max output of that supply is 7V, and on the back of the Super-T is
says 'DC 12v'?
