. However, I've read that a linear power supply will not improve
performance when the SB3 is used as a digital output device

Phil,
All my FLAC rips would be 44.1 then, I will check the sampling rate on
the Behringer in case it is set incorrectly. AFAIK it samples 44.1, 48
etc and resamples at the chosen rate.

if it is a problem with the SB3 digital output. The strange
thing is that using the digital ouptput from a CD player as transport
does not have this popping problem through the Behringer

I will check that the SB3 and Behringer are both clocked at 44.1 and
retest. Both spdif and toslink show a locked signal on the Behringer. I
then run the internal upsampler to 88.2. Does slimserver have switches
for the sb3 output to be set at 44.1 or is it the default?

I am using XLR to RCA Unbalanced to amplifer. I read that the BEH ouput
is very high (pro audio) could that be overloading my amplifer? If that
was the case wouldn't the CD digital out into the BEH overload the amp
as well?

. Maybe someone
on the forum with technical expertise may look at the possible reasons
for switches affecting sound quality, could it be the topology or chips
etc?

Whatever was causing the sound quality drop seems to have been solved by
the replacement of the switch. I have swapped the switches around to
ensure that the differences I've heard are audible and I have to
conclude that the switch is affecting the sound - no idea why

It is possible that the original switch was introducing noise or
artefacts into the data stream. Might even be the wall-wart switch mode
power supply because the one supplied with the Linksys is certainly more
substantial in build.
Thanks for all the suggestions from list members

All cables are unshielded cat 5. The SB3 is powered by a Regulated
linear power supply set to 5 volts. All other units run off their own
power packs.

I intend to use SB with NAS only once files are uploaded. How do I set
a static IP for the SB. Is it in slimserver software or SSOTS? I have
done it for the NAS
