There have been some small technical improvements over the years but I
am not a big believer that DAC's have improved significantly in the
last 10-15 years. What has changed recently is there is a number of
very good value priced dacs that come close to matching much more
expensive DAC's.

Have there been any truly significant improvements in DAC design in the

I just purchased the Channel Islands DAC VDA-2 and VAC-1. They are
running a 10th aniversery sale and are thowing in a nice digital

+1 for the Lite Dac60.
Compared the dac60 to a PS Audio DLIII today, and found them to sound
very much alike. The PS maybe a tad better in the highs, the Dac60
maybe a bit more mid-bass... But I wouldn't have survived an DBT.
The dac60 is a slightly modded-by-owner version, I ordered the GR

I have a BM Dac1 on sale or return. It's connected to a sb3 via a
non-descript coax lead, and analog out via a Chord Chysalis rca to rca
to a full Naim setup. I had a Transporter on sale or return in January
and returned it after a week feeling underwhelmed. However the sb3 with

Could you provide more info regarding your choice of the lavry?
A couple threads from Ac and AA in favor of the DAC60:

If your budget allows $1000, then I would not hesitiate in getting the
Lavry. I auditioned a DAC-60 next to my Lavry and I'd take the Lavry
any day. The DAC-60 was nice and is a good deal for the price, but in
my opinion the Lavry is in another league.

Don't know, but I am very interested also! Because I ordered SB3+

Yes might be true. I just quoted Eddie.

I don't know the techincal details of the Citipulse, although I'm
guessing Gary knows. I strongly prefer it to the Benchmark (which I
really don't like much), but don't have an opinion of how it compares
to the Lavry (which I do like) since I have not heard them "head to

Does anyone have technical info about the Citypulse DAC?
Specifically:
1. What DAC chip does it use?
2. What is the output topology (i.e. does it use OpAmps and which ones)?
3. What receiver does it use CS part No?
4. Subjectively how does it compare to frontrunners like Benchmark DAC-1
and Lavry

With my SB3, I am using the Monica2 DAC from diyparadise.com in
Malaysia. It has a single non-oversampling chip. The sound quality is
excellent. Price is 125$ + shipping! You get a fully assembled board
with "boutique" components, just have to add a 12V battery or power
supply, some connectors

That is the first time I came across a DAC with a remote control. Very

Hello,
You may want to check out the Paradisea DAC hand-built in Taiwan and
sold only on e-bay. $530 shipped to the US.

Tube buffer and damn nice sounding DAC. It can be hard to get
though. You have to watch e-bay and grab it fast as they go fast.

Can you tell us anymore on the City Pulse Dac?
I see that it has balanced out and a remote volume control - which

I'm assuming the volume control is in the analog domain rather than
digital.
How does it sound? Compared to a Benchmark Dac?
