Robin,
No, they are two different names. However, since people use multiple
surnames, she could have both in her name.

If this woman was born pre-1892, you would have to go to the archive in
Ponta Delgada and search the baptisms for Vila Franca - Sao Miguel Arcanjo,
requesting the years 1882-1892. You will have to hunt for her looking at
every baby born with her first name, checking to see if the parents
Hi Steven,
Just for practice, start to read the dates on each baptism (as they are in
chronological order). It takes time to get used to the dates being spelled
out instead of using numbers (they use some numbers in the older records).
You'll get used to the months that way too.

Hi John,
I'm not familiar with that site, but I know there are others on this list
that have used it, I believe. I couldn't make the fields come up, so I'm
hoping someone else can guide you through this form.
A 1920 baptism would most likely give her parents and grandparents. But the

Hello John,
The films in the FHC for Ribeirinha, Ribeira Grande only go to the year
1883. That was all they could film up to because of the 100 year rule

I have done a fair amount of my family tree, and I notice that from generation
to generation some were given the same last name while others were not. I am

I think if I were in the same situation I would want to give my child the best
chance to own that tree some time in the future.
