Is there a script or utility I can use to verify the backup on the tape?
Does bacula support hardware compression? How well does it work generally?
If I can recover files from the first volume, does it mean the volume
and backup are ok?

Hi everyone,
I've had to revert to bacula 1.36 from 1.38 and now tape volumes are

Hi Wolfgang,
I, with the help of my friend Tom, got the problems solved. Here it
goes:
1.) I have an Exabyte-8900 tape drive that passed all the btape tests
with flying colors. So I didn't think there was a problem with the
drive. We'll there was. In the bacula-sd.conf file the option unde

I have been updating with each of the new 1.38.3's when they come out,
but I am still having an issue with "waiting to reserve a device". The
first 1.38.3 update allowed it to perform backups, but it now waits
exactly 30 minutes before starting. When the job is scheduled to
start, it immedia

Hi,
Just started using Bacula and completed backup to the first volume. Now
backup moved to second volume. However, the volume status for the first
volume shows error. Also the size of data put on the volume seems larger
than the spec (176G vs 160G).

And one more further note:
I tried building 1.38.0 by myself too, got it running after
replacing build_fc4 with build_fc3.
Then I tried building 1.38.2, no problems this time either.
So, this is something that happens only with 1.38.3 beta.

Just a quick question here on the 1.38.3 mtx-changer script:
In the older 1.36.3 version there was a line about line 99 or so that
you has to comment out and replace as follows to "fake" bar code
support. Ex:
# echo "Requested list"
# ${MTX} -f $ctl status | grep " *Storage Element [0-9]

A further note: I installed mtx from FC4 repo with
yum install mtx
to fullfill dependencies with 1.38.3
To return back to 1.38.0, I removed package mtx
1.38.0 then runs ok again.

I had a 1.38.0 on FC4, with mysql support. Installed from binary rpms loaded
from Sourceforge.
Now, I tried to build rpm by myself, from the 1.38.3 source rpm from
Sourceforge:
#!/bin/bash
rpmbuild --rebuild \
--define "build_fc4 1" \
--define "build_mysql 1" \
