[beagleboard] open(), O_SYNC, O_DIRECT, and serial port IO timing

2014-01-23 Thread Britton Kerin
Is it possible to use open(), O_SYNC and/or O_DIRECT such that a serial port write (via USB and an FT232RL or similar chip) can be reliably timed? In other words, will code about like this work as intended: int serial_port_fd = open("/dev/ttyUSB0", O_SYNC) start_time = clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTON

I just noticed that Digikey has a 100pack part number( BB-BBLK-100-ND ) so wouldn't that almost by default be in violation of the 'don't use it in a product' clause? Just the fact that they have a PN for a 100 qty order instead of say a 30 pack or 10 pack should raise some eyebrows. No? Doug O

[beagleboard] Need more storage space

2014-01-23 Thread Gary Hoffman
My BBB boots from eMMC into Angstrom. I'm working on a Java project and need more storage space than the 2 G in the eMMC. Can I use an empty SD card as additional storage? Or should I move everything, OS and all, to the SD card and just work off that? (Noting all the comments about reliability

Thanks a lot Dennis . That was quite an insight. Actually we have placed that 100k resistor. Nowdays, the board is showing less of those kernel crashes. On Jan 23, 2014 11:50 PM, "Dennis Ferguson" wrote: > Hello, > > If you are still having the problem try to boot the kernel without the > console

UART_RX has *active* level "0", i.e. pulled down. In order to have an idle state you should pull RX up to 3.3V. 2014/1/24 nitesh singh > Thanks a lot Dennis . That was quite an insight. > Actually we have placed that 100k resistor. Nowdays, the board is showing > less of those kernel crashes. >
