Hi All
This is the first day Gull Is. is open to the public and I went over this AM to
check out the crossing and the birds.
Today waves were coming in from the south (Lake) side about 1 foot in height
Popham Bay was quite calm
Crossing: (apologise for mixing metric and Imperial units but I am
The male Harlequin duck was showing very nicely at Calf Pasture of the
Presqu'ile Prov. Park at 2pm this afternoon. It was in with a loose raft of
Greater Scaup and Long-tailed Ducks. Too far for photos but beautiful in a
scope with great light on him.

To reach Presqu'ile
There is a Red Phalarope at Owen Point at Presqu'ile Prov. Park. It has been
feeding in some puddles on top of the algae mat but has moved north and into
the lake a bit. It is the only bird out there. The gale force winds ensure
those that have gone out for a look don't stay long!
A beautiful calm day is attracted lots of people over to the island. Still 2.5
feet deep but many people are going over without waders of any kind. I saw 14
species of Shorebird, including the godwit and buff-breasted and a golden
plover first thing. With all the people now some of the birds
Today (Sept 11) is the first day that Gull island is open to the public after
the water bird nesting season. This usually means birders will wade from Owen
Pt but with the high water levels many may be wondering about access.
I went over this morning in calm conditions wearing chest waders.
Hi
Not really an alert obviously but I had visitors in the park that showed me
pictures of a collared dove in their backyard on Aug 13. It is no longer there
but they live beside Hanna Park on Parkview Heights in Trenton - you can look
up directions as well as I since I have never been there
This morning there is a nice selection of waterfowl concentrated in a large
hole in the ice just off the Harbour Street Parkette just east of the
Presqu'ile Park entrance. This may be getting to be the last chance to see
waterfowl concentrated by ice in this area.
Three species of Swan (16
While the first flush and excitement of waterfowl migration is well past, duck
viewing, at least in this area, is really very good right now. Perhaps the
best of the spring. My 1 hour search yesterday afternoon netted 19 species.
Ducks remain well off shore in Presqu'ile Park proper but very
Checked Barcovan harbour this afternoon. There were 9 Ross' Geese (where were
the other two?) in a tight raft floating just outside the harbour mouth. While
I watched they drifted further away from the harbour mouth but were close to
shore for pretty good looks. They seemed somewhat
Presqu'ile 51st Christmas Bird Count - Dec 20th 2015
The 51st CBC for Presqu'ile was conducted on Dec 20th, 2015 with 28 field
participants and 3 feeder watchers. Weather was generally cloudy with
occasional sun and moderate to brisk west winds (but much reduced from the
19th!). Temperatures
After the very sharp front came through at noon today the sun was shining and
the air remained warm.
A Red Phalarope was feeding in with about 50 Bonaparte's Gulls at Owen Point at
2pm. It had been seen at 11am on Beach 3.
Note tomorrow is a hunt day so Owen Point will not be accessible.

Hi
At 8am this AM about 150 shorebirds at Owen Point in Presqu'ile. They where
flighty but seemed to stay between Gull Island and the Point itself and
offshore shoals.

White-rumped Sandpiper - 1
