While birding Flamborough this morning I ran into Jim Dowall at the marsh on
Safari Rd. a km or so west of Valens Rd. We had 3 or 4 singing Virginia Rails
and as we were trying to get the number of Rails calling, a Least Bittern flew
right over our heads from the NW side of the wetlands and
these birds.
DIRECTIONS: The Brampton Courthouse is at 7755 Hurontario Street in Brampton.
It’s on the east side of Hurontario about a kilometer south of Steeles.

Directions: Fallsview Rd runs west off Sydenham Rd. in Flamborough. To get to
Sydenham drive exactly 3 km west of Clappison's Corners. (Hwy # 6 at Hwy # 5 )
on Dundas then turn south on Sydenham. Follow Sydenham southerly aproximately 2
km to Fallsview Rd.

keep going south 0.6km past Elm Tree Road. The bird was with a large collection
of Canadas feeding in the corn field on the west side of Park Rd.

The Western Kingbird was still busy flycatching at Port Burwell up until 4:30
this afternoon. It's exact location is extremely difficult to explain precisely
and while all previous directions are vague, I don't know how one could improve
upon them?
I also had at least one juvenile Vesper
The bird was still present when I left the site at 11:00 am. The bird was not
at all skitterish and seemed content feeding on seeds set out on the rear
steps. Some 15 birders had preceded me and when I left perhaps only 3 others
were there. I fully expect a throng to arrive sometime during the
The Prairie Warbler first found at the Currie Tract a couple of weeks ago was
still showing and singing (virtually non-stop). It was in essentially the same
location where it was first found. This at about 9 am today.

bill - a pushed-in face appearance. Paleness is but one feature of a Hoary

This morning at 10am while searching for and finding the WEVI, I also refound
the Worm-eating Warbler first found a few days ago. Both birds were initially
found in the cedars on the right hand side of the main path to to the lake
about 50' south of a large tree leaning across the path.

after twisting slightly to the west. You will find a long row of
Crab-apple trees full of fruit within this area. More specific directions to
these trees is difficult. . About 40 to 50 Pine Grosbeaks were feasting on the
berries in these trees.

For those of you needing an update on this bird, it was showing well around
noon today west along the RR tracks about 300 feet and off to the east.

Take the QEW to Niagara / Stoney Creek area, and take Fifty Road South to the
escarpment top., Turn right at the stop
of this
same house. If not there check the overhead wires on the NE corner and the top
of a tree 100 feet east of the SE corner.It called almost constantly.
It was very active and flew often but as stated above, remained located
essentially as described.

Eleven Cackling Geese were present this morning at 10:30 am at Reesor Pond.
They were particularly easy to find this morning as there were very few other
Canada Geese present (no more than a dozen or so). Also there were literally
hundreds of Mallards, some Blacks and very little else.

At least one Savannah Sparrow was still present today on the Eighth Line north
of Britannia Road. Also seen there was a single Mockingbird and several
White-crowned Sparrows.
Directions: Get to Britannia and 8th Line in Southeast Milton. Follow
8th Line North for approx 3/4 of a mile.

This is excellent advise on how all birders and photographers should behave
while observing any Owls we happen across. I trust that it's followed and not
just when someone else might be watching. These wonders of nature have a
difficult enough time trying to survive the hardships of winter
up rather sudenly after the road
sweeps to the left. The Conservation Area entrance is on the left. There is
a $5 admission fee.

Humber Bay park is found south of the QEW on Park Lawn Rd
Park your car in the parking lot and walk east past the first inlet ( where
the Wood Duck winters) to the second inlet on the north
at the most southerly
end of the lake, and about a hundred yards from it, you will see several 10
to 12 foot high conifers and blossoming shrubs. It was withing this area
that I found the Clay-coloreds this morning.

think this was the same Merlin I saw a week or so ago by the Brampton
Airport on McLaughlin Road although it could have been. The two locations
are about 7 or 8 kilometers apart from one another but merely minutes apart
for a Merlin.
