had 9 at 7:40 and a further 5 at noon. Of that small flock 3 returned and after
much circling managed to land for a rest right at the tip of Whimbrel Point
down on the rocks.

I was beginning to think today would never come. Northwest winds, the
conditions considered best for Hawking on the Hill were forecast for the whole

I am very pleased to announce what we believe is a new discovery about the
behaviour of our Whimbrels, activity which has been suspected for some time but
yesterday, may 25, was proven by observation. The area at the foot of Htydro

Not too exciting today if Whimbrels were all you were looking for, there were
only 2 birds that kept disappearing somewhere and coming back. They were first
seen (by Wayne Renaud) just before 8 am and last i know of, around 3 pm.

Its 8am and so far there have been 3 flocks totalling 140 Whimbrel.

Where all these Whimbrels are coming from is a mystery to me. The species
certainly hasn't doubled in size since last season although it would be nice.

Hi Whimbrel Fans
They are beginning to taper off, it seems.
So far today we’ve seen 104 Whimbrel .

Do I hear 9000? I know the Whimbrel Count has no real goals other than
assisting in the conservation of these great birds but we can't help a little
competitive enthusiasm seeping through.
