As with quite a few of most of my posts, I'm half joking ;-)
There really is a concern that in any military action by Venezuela,
Trinidad could become a target. And its thought , and during our coup
proven, that the US will be here in a second should stability on the
island be seriously threatened

No it wasn't a joke. A `:(` doesnt mean its a joke. Gel always puts out
veiled things saying how he thinks the US is completely fubar.
I'm sure gel is assuming the military is there to try to show Venezuela we
mean business with our support of columbia. Which i could even see and
understand that.
You would be rid of who?
Your post confused me..who's invading what, and who's getting rid of
whom?

I am not anti-military. Most soldiers are bright and idealistic, and
yes, they have to do what they are told. My issues are with what they
are told to do, and if I seem bitter about it sometimes it is because
I think that irreplaceable lives are being lost for very bad reasons.

We don't want the US military there be
I'm just sick and tired of the anti military sentiment.
We don't start wars. We don't decide to go to war. We don't pick enemies.
All of that is done by the civilian command authority.

C'mon now, I see your point, but it's not Iraq down there. At worst
the troops may have to dodge some Carnival floats...

Show me tanks.
We bring guns and hummers everywhere, we're the military. It's called
security and mobility. We're not going to have some vans and cars laid
aside just because a Humvee offends you.

I did not mean to imply that yours was a less fortunate country. I was
merely pointing out that the US Army has been doing humanitarian
missions for a very long time, and most of the countries are under that
classification.

We aren't categorised by the UN as a 'less fortunate country'.

Why do you need Hummers to give dental exams!!??

The Army has been doing humanitarian missions for as long as I can
remember. We even have a medal for it. The Humanitarian Service Medal.

to South America to help rebuild roads and some public buildings a
