You're right. They used to provide their list only to mirrors and you had to
get to a mirror to find out what was on it, but apparently you now get the list
directly from them.

they are now providing their list to the general public. it says so right on
their site. that is what concerns me so much. if enough people start picking
up their list, email connectivity is going bye bye.

I think that the people managing the blacklist are idiots, and the
mail admins who are implementing it are idiots, but they are only
guilty of being idiots.
I suspect more pressure will be given to companies like Oracle to stop
using the blacklist service than will be given to Time Warner to clean

You are redefining DNS RBLs into something they are not. There are quite
literally dozens of different DNS RBLs and all of them are different. There are
indeed DNS RBLs that simp
Nothing is wrong with the concept in general terms. My argument is that this

ok well.
mostly I have been viewing this thread as entertainment, but now I am curious.
What exactly is wrong with using economic tools to push an agenda? It's been
done many many times. Think bus boycotts in Alabama. Think tax policy.

Whoops! Darn Gmail formatting. Here is the heart of my argument from that

APEWS has glommed onto the way blacklists work, which is as trusted sources
to block spam. APEWS is abusing that trusted relationship to block very
large segments of the Internet in an attempt to coerce the users on th

That is the point of subscribing to a blacklist, isn't it?
The point of a blacklist is to block offending emails, i.e. spam, but allow
legitimate mail through. This list does not accomplish that objective.

Amen to the Google Apps.. I have been amazed at the spam filtering that they
have. I run almost 400 domains on a mail server with some 8,000 users... and
I STILL use google apps for domains because they are so good at what they
do.
Supposedly they are going to come out with a "Reseller" type progr

Don't use blacklists like that. If they're willing to block the
entire address range of rackspace, then they really don't care whether

Just get gmail or google apps for your domain =)

I had a similar problem with a blacklist a while ago (Many years). Our mail
server ended up blacklisted and their website only listed email as contact
info. They used their own list to filter for spam so there was no way for us
to email them!

Has anyone else had trouble lately with apews.org blacklisting their ISP/web
hosting provider? This little organization is blacklisting the entire
address ranges of large ISPs and hosting providers- Cox, Time Warner, and
Rackspace are all listed in their database, for instance. What that means is
