Subject: App Stress Testing
Is there a recommendation from other out there that have used stress
testing apps as to what they prefer? We need to benchmark some
performance capacities and surge capacities, and want to use the app to
actually put our apps

Tony,
Finding out where an application peaks out is a complex question and
depends on your code and the database etc.
Charlie Arehart spoke before our user group a few years back on the
subject of load testing. I also believe he wrote an article on the
subject in CFDJ though I couldn't locate

The one main drawback is that you need to have multiple sessions on
multiple PCs, because it overwhelms the local pc's nic card since they
normally are lower end.

I have used OpenSTA a couple of times and it provides very good stress
testing logs, although I must admit I am a bit rusty on its workings
currently.
With regards to the server side you could enable CFperfmon to get
analysis from that.

Nick,
The server itself seems to be hammered. When I VNC into it, it is
painfully slow. Another problem is that client vars are stored in
Registry..yes I know..very bad. I take it this will have an effect on
server speed?
Yup. If your registry is nearly full then the chances are that
for awhile now. Anyone else care to comment!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for companies that
do load/stress testing on sites?
I believe Fig Leaf (www.figleaf.com) does this - they did a

Thanks for the advice.

If you're cramped on budget, you can use inetload for free. It's totally
scriptable too.
