The thermastat & radiator cap are legit
problems. I've seen both happen in the past. But I too would bet on the hoses
1st, pump 2nd & a blockage somewhere third.

collector car dealer up here locally. He takes LeMans and Malibus,
repaints them and sells them as a GTO or an SS chevelle. I went to
check out a ragtop 70 SS396 at his lot. It turned out to be a plain
as day fake.

Could be belt slippage or, as I've had happen to me,
the lower hose collapses at higher speeds making the temp shoot up. When
the engine slows back down, it opens up again. Check the lower hose for
too much "softness". If you replace it, get one that ha
