That's not
what's happening to me. What you are describing is normal. It's meant to
prevent you from locking the keys in the car. You have to hold the button in when
you shut the door if you want it to stay locked.
Oddly

Hi all
I have been lurking in the background, and due to house selling, getting green

here I very much would like to get your feedback.

John,
Believe it or not, my 68 does the exact same
thing. When I first got the car, it took me awhile to notice that when I
locked it, that the doors unlocked when I shut the door. Wish I had a easy
fix but I dont. Just thought it was odd that someone else has possesed
doors!!

The car I saw was a dark Emerald Metal Flake Green...It just glowed in the
sun!! What a car!

Scott,
Cracking is what I heard as well, but that was almost 35 to 40 years ago
for me, so surely something has to be improved, and you see many bass boats
are still metal flake!

When my wife picked out the green color for her 1972 Monte Carlo the
paint guy instantly said that a lot of metal flake and a slight touch of
blue will really bring out the green. He was right, normally I don't
care for green, but this with the metal flake added it really stands out.

I've seen similar to this, although a lot beefier, in use on bobcats and
mid-size wheel loaders on construction sites for the past year or so. They
are a different brand than Michelin, but they seem to hold up really well so
far. Impervious to nails and other common jobsite hazards. I don't know
John I believe some of the restoration suppliers use that same
manufacturing process to make oval tips for 70-72 velles.

I recently did some custom pipe bending. Note to self: do not try to hop
high curbs in the dark. I crushed both of my chrome tips, which are now
oval-shaped instead of round :(
It's gonna cost me about $150 for new tailpipes. Bummer. Getting angry in
your classic car can be very expensive.

you didn't name it Chevelle why?
Kinney's Muffler Shop in Bedford, TX near Fort Worth/Dallas does a lot
of custom work.

I just painted a motorcycle solid red flake.
Took about 12 coats of clear to bury it all enough to be wetsanded out. It

Good luck!

Back then clear and sunlight did not like each other. Talk about cracking.

My car is 1969's Dusk Blue Metallic. It's not "metal flake" per se, but the
guy who painted it complained about there being so much metal in the paint
that it tended to pool up and settle in certain areas. He also complained
about it being difficult to buff out without it looking like it had fine
