I am using a four year old Optima Red Top in my '71. I like it because it holds up well when the car is not started for several weeks (or more) at a time. It is also a little lighter than a regular battery. My problem is I think the red top really looks out of place when showing the car.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the voltage regulator . Make sure the alt. belt is tight and change the regulator, cheap things first . After I did that , the regulator told the Alt. to CHARGE. It was fine after that.
