One thing to consider is the gear spread of the trans with your engine.
Let's say you have a low torque, high winding '69 302, which has a narrow
power band. That car would prefer a "close ratio" gear spread, meaning
that the
At present I'm running a 350 with 290 duratoion can 447 lift , headers, 4 barrell, 12 bolt posi 355 gears. I not apposeed to changing gear as my 355's are about wore out anyway.Hope this helps.

else.

Thanks Clint,
I may just do that. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for the Tremec to come out with the correct shifter location for my 66.
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the web site.
I only say I 66 chevelle guy on the customer feedback though.
Have you known of anyone who has actually installed this kit in a 66?
I have been also looking at Fortes. They say they are on the verge of developing a Tremec that will actually locate the shifter in the

Maybe this page will help you decide:

Ask the guys with the Richmonds to confirm, but I've been told the Long
shifter external linkages won't fit in the tunnel, and that you'll need
to cut a 'window' in the side of your tunnel and rebuild.
The TREMEC will require major tunnel surgery. No doubt about
it. Keisler sells the same transmission as everyone else, but they
will claim the others' won't fit. Now, I think their crossmember
drops the rear of the transmission which might allow it to fit in the tunnel,
however, that screws up
Gents:
lets not forget one little item. I do believe what I have read it the Richmond will handle more torque than the Tremec.

Actually, 525 ft/lbs for the TKO, and 450 ft/lbs for the Richmond.
:-) And the TKOII is good for around another 50 ft/lb according
to TTC.
And both are underrated, and both are very durable well beyond those
numbers. I sure wish someone would do an independant study on the true
strength of

As you're
looking, be sure to factor the 1st gear ratio, and the final gear ratio, and how
they will work with your engine/cam/carb/rear gearing setup. Both are
pretty important.
Mike is
definitely right about the above statement. What tranny you choose is dependent
No one has asked but could you tell us more about
your engine combo, present trans, and rear end ratio? You really need to tailor
your combo to the trans that will do what you want.

Yeah I had the ratings backward. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for any input!

I think the five speed is a simpler swap, and cheaper as well. Check
