I've just got a hold of a PIX 515UR and I want to upgrade to the lastest
software, but when I do a show ver there is no activation key.
Is this normal, or do I have to obtain one from somewhere?

It will not work until the ACME "DHCP offer" arrives in the mail.
But be careful, it never works the way you expect.

The access-list is the important point - if you traffic doesn't get caught
by the access-list it wont be encrypted.
Your access list encrypts telnet traffic that is sourced from the loopback
address. Now I could be wrong, but if you are on router ISDN1 and telnet to
the loopback address of ISDN2,
The solution was to type vlan database at the enable mode, which allows me
to configure vtp parameters.
Thanks go to Andrew.

Can anyone tell me if a DSP card is required in a 1750 for a VIC-2FXS to be

I have a voice IOS but it's not showing the VIC as being installed.

nothing definitive. I think the type of bit-rate depends on many factors :

Hi Everyone.
I want to connect each of our servers into each of our 6500's to provide
NIC/Switch redundancy. This is easy because most server NICs support
redundancy teams and failover.
The difficultly I have is I also want to get more bandwidth into the server
by using Fast Etherchannel AS WELL

Hi Everyone.
I am having trouble trying to work out why I cannot get a router to connect
via ISDN to another router when tacacs is configured. I want to use the
local Tacacs database and I have followed the instructions on the cisco web
site
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/cisintwk/intsol
There are hundreds (okay maybe tens) of inexpensive analog and ISDN PBX's
that could be used in a CCIE lab environments. They may not have the
diagnostic capabilites of a Teltone, but you can dial between extensions,
which is all you need.
I am in Europe, so I only know of European products - man

Hi everyone.
I have just purchased a (cisco approved) Kingston 8MB mini-flash memory card
for my Cisco 1750, but it is not recognised as 8MB, only 4MB. It is only
seeing 2 banks of 2048K - has anyone else had similar problems. Of course
the @£$& shop I bought it off won't exchange memory that ha
I have a intermittent problem (about a dozen times a day) where a PVC goes
from the active to inactive state. It used to happen maybe once a week. I
have not changed anything on either router. Furthermore, my other PVC's are
unaffected.
I did a debug of the lmi packets and the output is below. M
Yes . The better way to do it is to create virtual dialer interfaces. ie
dialer 0, dialer 1 etc
You can make dialer 0 the backup to the serial line, while dialer 1 can be
used for other purposes.
The obvious risk with this is that the BRI may be in use when you need it
for backup purposes. You m

Hi everyone.
Is there any way to backup a DDR ISDN line with the same ISDN line? Are you
confused? me too!
Basically I want the router to try dialing one number, and if it fails to
connect, to then try dialing another number?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Here Here.
It's a shame that you forgot to answer the question yourself - but I imagine
that was an oversight.
The contents of an IP packet include :
1. A quantity of small, edible 'IPs' (similar to potato chips but not quite
as tasty)
2. A non-edible plastic toy (I emphasis the words 'non-edi
If you are able to do a reverse telnet to the modem then obviously the modem
is connected to the router correctly. You can then enter an atdt command to
test if there is a telephone cable connected to the modem.
If you don't know what reverse telnet is refer to previous mails.

It's actually tcp port 49, according to my packet sniffer.

Does anyone know what ports TACACS uses?
I have read on cisco website
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/pix/pix_v42/pix42cfg/p
ix42apa.htm
that 'TACACS requires one definition for port 65 on TCP and another for port
49 on UDP'.
I have allowed these ports through on an ACL,
rk in a lab and
everything works great, but I can't simulate the 1000 network ospf database,
possible routing loops and convergence time.
Thanks for the help so far,
Dion

Has anyone out there ever integrated OSPF and EIGRP?
We have a requirement where we want to take a part of our network out of the
OSPF area and make it into an EIGRP network. (Good reasons for this, I can
assure you)
Network A - OSPFNetwork B - EIGRP
