T-shirt was given to people who passed the CCNA test. Cisco eventually ran

8-N-2 is correct, but 8-N-1 should work, too. Did you check the speed? 9600 might not be correct. Make sure config register was not changed.

Title: RE: static route are in the routing table
When the next hop referenced can not be reached, the route will not show up in the routing table. This is the same for all routing protocols, whether it's static or dynamic.

I'm not an expert on Token Ring, but I believe there are two kinds of Token
Ring NICs. One understands RIF, one does not. A host is set up depending
on how the router on the LAN is implemented. It has nothing to do with
whether it's a PC or UNIX, etc, because this is a Layer 2 issue.
HTH,
Think of FR as point-to-multipoint (multiple point-to-point), namely,
hub-and-spoke, which is the same as the star topology.
The hub router can talk to any of the spoke routers, but a spoke router can
not talk to other spoke routers unless it goes thru the hub router first.
Think of the
Cisco's "layer 3 switching", simply put, refers to all routing processes
except process switching (conventional routing with CPU). Namely, any
routing process without CPU's intervention is considered "layer 3
switching". This has nothing to do with frames (layer 2) obviously.
HTH,
Rog
That's because there are more than one equal-cost next hops. You see three
round-trip times because the packets with the same TTL were send out three
times. If you look at your hop 3, you can see that it responded three
times.

Both are correct. The "point-to-point" and "multipoint" he refers to in his
book are the types of logical sub-interfaces. I think that's where your
confusion is.

At the minimum, you need under the ATM interfaces:
atm pvc 1 0 5 qsaal
atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi
Then do:
show atm ilmi-status
and you should see the prefix part of the NSAP address.

In place of "dialer map", you can use the "dialer string" command. Then you
don't need destination's IP address.

To set up peers in BGP, one of the two will use the IP address from the
other AS becaue the link must be on the same subnet, and that subnet's IP
address block must belong to one of the two. That's probably what you saw
when you did the traceroute. You should see a different IP address block if

Why do they do that, you ask? Well, when the packets come into the router
