Hmmm... PPOE is a pretty specialize application. We used it when I worked for Covad. The application is a driver for WIN98_SE. Their is an ATM over Ethernet or RFC1483 patch added @ install. So, for security, it's regular Windows stuff. That's all I know, you may want to check www.DSLReports

You might want to research the 1700 DSL routers with VPN & Firewall IOS too. The problem you may be dealing with is a proprietary DSL setup. A few years back when I worked for Covad, it was the DSLAM technology that dictated the type of CPE we could use & since Cisco sold DSLAM's... their CPE's
