When ClamAntivirus is run in clamd mode what exactly will the daemon do?
Will it scan all files automatically? or when an email arrives? Can you
specify a certain directory to be scanned when there is activity? or on a
timed basis? Can you please give some more info about that!
I'm trying to use clamav-milter. But clamd goes walk about after awhile

This might be slightly off-base here, but anyone know if clamd leaks and if
there's any current patch? I'm running 0.70-rc. Below's the memory usage
showing clamd eating up the mem resource.

I use clamd (clamdscan) v.0.60 for scan email in/out on my qmail server . I
use RPM from http://people.best-off.org/~dsr/cubelog/ . My clamd service is
stop automatic every week. I found /var/run/clamav/clamd.pid but service not
running. And i can't send/recieve all email if clamd stop.
I've been trying to get clamav installed for a while now. I've been having
trouble with clamd. It is installed and running, but clamdscan fails. I was
not getting logging until recently. I just got the logging working and am
now getting:

Hello all,
My installation of clamav issued a segmentation fault
in the clamd daemon this morning. The strange thing is,
it happened right after the freshclam's database update.
No virus checks at this time, that's why I suppose it
was the database reloading which caused the failure.

I know there is a socket command for clamd that can tell clamd to reload the
virus defintion databases.
Is this something that clamd does on its own after a set period of time? Or
is there maybe a helper application (clamdscan with a command line switch?)

I've got clamd processing a ton of mail, it does a good job not crashing
these days (cvs as of a week or so ago), but the new problem is as bad or
worse - the hanging. At least when it crashed, supervise (I'm running it

the process terminates, because:
Socket file /tmp/clamd is in use by another process.
now I have no glue, which other process could use the socket file from clamd.
I set the permissions to 777 on the end, but didn't help.

happens to me atleast once a week. And then I have to many a times
remove the clamd file and restart clamd. And the worst part is that

I was seeing the same behavior. I am using MIMEDefang to feed incoming
mail to clamd on Slowaris 8. Compiled 20040628 and the clamd daemon
stabalized ... so far (crosses fingers).

You need to put a watchdog script in place that runs out of cron. Clamd has
severe memory management problems and will use all you have - your cron script
should look for two things
