Hi to both of you :)
I made confusion between your names. I knew that you too were different
persons (it was basically a typing error) but I got really intrigued
when Charley answered :)
It was at least very impolite of me to both of you and for it my
apologies.

request) following the practices stated in my previous post, not only
does that but also dynamically creates insert, update and select SQL
procedures.

this syntactic sugar mainly
because users will define queries schemas using GUI and with a UI
steamed from faceted classification that basically does more or less the
same. Our goal is to configure the system without the need for coding
including query schemas (search interfaces).

For instance Get all companies that are in settled in Europe but not in
EU.
MV_GEO_CONTINENT = Europe AND NOT MV_POLITICAL_ORG=EU
Compare this with pure XPath :)
Hope it helped.

human readable information fast in a systematic fashion according to

more signal, less noise.
it not so well you will:
*) get less then what you need.
*) get more then you need.
*) not get what you need at all.
Either way means more cost then expected.
There is much more to say about this, I suggest buying the books and
keep on sharing experiences.
Hope it helped,

Hi Charles,
Technically speaking about XML I concur with your vision of problems and
benefits and find your questions, hints and remarks very helpful.
First, by dusting off that old Kenton quote (a favorite of technology
salesmen everywhere), are you implying that just because MS Word ain't
) by considering that they
work reasonably well already (Probably in 2 to 5 years).

Hi Tom,
I would like to suggest a different slant on the solution for your

It seams that Microsoft is on the right track on this one, but I'm not

Another approach is to say that the document in XML is your primary
record, although it may be harder to implement this due to your
organization culture or probably not.

an easy, medium or
complex CMS implementation, and what is a completed CMS implementation.
This are not estimates for your implementation (I have no knowledge
about your requirements, technology, analysis, nothing to do such
estimate). They are just some pointers.

I Lionel,
First let me state that your situation more common then not so you are
in the middle of a crowd.
The problem I am running into, though, is that our department has no
defined processes. In my research, I have found that, until we define
our processes, the CMS cannot really help us.

technical abilities of within the intervenient business departments and
the IT Admins commitment to its success.
There is more to be said but then again I need to make a living :)

PS: Brendan's advice is to be followed strictly
and stupid mean that don't track 2 steps when you
actually just need to track 1. But also don't just track 1 step when you
actually need to track 2. Both examples induce complex collateral tasks
that harm productivity within the realm of CM (or any other discipline).
