Your mixing elbow is original ie 32 years old..I am assuming it has
spent its life in a 'salt water environment'. If so, there has to be
some corrosion taking place on the inside.
A mixing elbow is not an expensive
Greg,
I got a custom track extension and gate made by Tom Luque, at Mastgate.
MastGates.com Tom was very helpful in designing and sending me a system that
worked for the mast in my CC35 II (original spar, 1974). He will certainly
work with you to design something specific. I wanted to extend
This discussion made me think about the situation on my boat with a Universal
M4-30. I looked at the engine diagram and parts list online and found no
mention of a mixing elbow. Is this a Yanmar specific issue? If so, how does
the Universal handle exhaust? Dave

Unless your boat has a dry exhaust - not likely - you have a way to mix
exhaust and water somewhere. At least back in the Atomic 4 days Universal
did not make mixing elbows, so the installer was left to buy or fabricate
one. Mine is made of black iron pipe from Home Depot and I try and remember

Interesting.
I replaced teak rails with stainless on a J30 a few years ago. It had
over/under handrails. We kept the teak rails underneath. Over/under rails
add a level of complexity when replacing with stainless. It's important to
plan how you do it.
Sent the old capintop rails to
I find the fastest way to do this is to use a tape measure that is
sufficiently long and rigid.
Extend it through the boom. Once through use electrical tape to tape the
end of the reefing line to the end of the tape measure and pull it through.
It doesn't take much more than a minute per line. I
That's a well thought out procedure, Dennis; thanks for sharing. I have
considered exterior SS handrails for Alianna but as another lister pointed
out I just preferred the look of the teak handrails on my 1974 design...so
keeping that teak looking good is my challenge...cetol seems to hold up
Dave,
I put a Universal M30-B in my club launch two years ago, and it had a
mixing elbow supplied loose, I had to add a 2 long pipe between the
manifold and the elbow. If you go to page 13 of the manual in the link
below, you'll see it. Not sure if the M4-30 has the same, as the manual
on
David,
Westerbeke/Universal calls it an exhaust riser or exhaust elbow. At the end
of the exhaust manifold, you will find a connection to an elbow made of cast
aluminum (at least that is what the elbow in my M35B is made of). The side
of the riser/elbow has a tapped hole with a plug very close
I won't be sad to see West go. Their prices were good when they came in,
but I find them too expensive.
I have one within walking distance of my office, but I'd prefer to go just
about anywhere else.
I'm guessing most other Canadian boaters are the same Hence they head
back home.
Buh
I have a commercial (Port Supply) account with WM. I find I can buy
cheaper from Defender, eBay, among others, than my commercial account. Of
course, Port Supply discounts are volume based. If you buy $40-50K a year
from them, they're great.

One of the problems they faced was the see-sawing $CAD. When it was really
lurching around vs. the $USD, we would sometimes see two or three different
prices for the same item in one month. In the end, however, I think they
gave up to some extent and just let it ride as too much.
