Jim, that is some of the best set of recommendations I've heard in a long time.
I did this ad hoc, and not on a schedule. However, taking an awl and poking
around the chainplait attachments to the bulkheads every 6 months whole looking
for wood discoloration will tell you if you have a rot
Some years ago I too had a problem involving a mast. We were in a collision
with a Hans Christian or similar boat with a bow sprit. The other boat's
bobstay rode up on our toe rail and her bow sprit punched our mast leaving a
dent. We were unable to find a replacement spar that was affordable
The surveyor sent an assistant to take moisture meter readings ahead of the
survey to save me money if it was a dud. He called me today with just those
results to see how I would proceed. He then wanted to know if the boat was
balsa cored below the water line. He hasn't been inside the boat yet
I am shocked too...i think I would be careful answering for him..this is what

That's how we do it on Grenadine. I drive with my knees touching the bridge
deck and the tiller behind my back, and the trimmers sit behind me. Gives
everybody the most room and vision. And I have a tiller extension for when we
need my meat on the rail too.

I agree with Doug, the boat itself is quite repairable, an advantage of the
older boats. I would have a very good look at the other side as well.
There's a lot you could do, - fairly simply - to improve the strength in this
area.

My guess is the Anytiller guys know the original specks. Did you ask? We, on
our 33 mark 1 bought a longer stock tiller (from West Marine I think) so the
skipper could sit up against the bulkhead. Works really good, especially in
racing situations. Crew working lines behind the

Hi,
Please note that 3QM30 water pump are not like some of the GM pump with
pulleys, the QM pump is shaft driven directly by the camshaft(i.e. no belt).
I have not rebuilt one, but it looks easy enough, 2 circular clips, bearings
and seals. I can send you the schematics from the parts manual

I just did this on my pump 3gm30. The problem was the rear seal. I just
replaced it no problem. Clean off the shaft with 600 wet paper as well as the
other surface. Probably just the seal easy fix. Gary

Doug,
Thanks. I saw that there are three C 35-1's in the Chi-Mac from you
area. I'm sure that they have already addressed the issue. I still
find it hard to believe that the back side of that bulkhead wasn't
glassed. All of the lower chain plates go to glass in bulkheads. The

Hi Randy
In most areas removing original fixtures such as ovens, tables, doors etc … to
save weight is considered taboo and incurs a penalty under PHRF. Generally
cushions are permitted to be removed because they can get wet while racing esp
in smaller sportier boats. A completely rebuilt
The water pump on my raw water cooled 3QM30 (1980) is weeping about 5 drops per
minute from the weep hole behind the impeller housing. I'm thinking that this
will require a rebuild. Have listers done this themselves? Any
recommendations for shops that could do this for me. I'm in NJ.
