Blue Sea calculates that for a 100amp load 2 conductors and 10 feet in the
engine room you need 2 AWG - roughly 1/4 inch diameter. Seems on the small
side compared to what I have but I wouldn't get too upset. Follow the
calcs.

Voltage drop from 12 to 8 when cranking or idle? I agree, check all the
connections for corrosion and tightness including the battery terminals.

Is that drop to starter or from alternator?
Gauge required is a function of the amperage and round trip wire length.

As far a I'm concerned, our 37/40+ with stack pack and autopilot is eminently
capable to be single handed as long as I am coming into a protected slip where
wind and current are not an issue. My only heartburn would be not having a
second pair of hands for dock lines.

My first bet would be the connection on either the battery or the starter
terminals (one year one of my batteries was showing 7 V!. a bit of cleaning and
tightening the nuts and it was back to normal))

Hi Josh,
Truth be told, I fell in love with the 37/40+ 16 years ago when I was boatless
and saw them on Yachtworld. I later found the 34/36 model and Stu's brochures

No dodger; we don’t need it here (it is either too hot or too cold here). And I
know that a dodger would be an issue.
It does work well. It made the main adjustments so much easier, especially when
close hauled and in high winds.

Chuck,
FWIW, my wife and I have each single handed our 37+ (37/40). It isn't
"easy" but certainly doable. I would tell a prospective buyer that they
shouldn't go overboard and expect all the luxuries of land but a few extra
feet will probably not be regretted. If they made a 44+ I would buy
it.
Looks like it probably works perfectly. Do you not have a dodger? That
would be my only hold up.

The only problem he is going to run into is that it is mid point boom
attachment. He would have to figure out how/where to run a second control
line back to the cockpit.

I forgot to consider where you are pulling on the boom too. A mid boom
attachment requires more than a 3/4 or end boom arrangement. I think
you'll enjoy a new arrangment.

My setup is similar to yours - 3:1 purchase plus the self - tailing winch.
The more purchase you have with a triple block means it will take longer
for the boom to go in and out when you change direction. Also, in light
air, you may have too much friction for the boom to go out by itself when

I had a similar setup and changed it 6:1/3:1 using Garhauer special double
block on the traveller. This gives you great speed, when you need it and more
purchase when you need that. Also freed one clutch on the cabin top and does
not require a winch, at all.

More power means less travel per foot of line pulled, ultimately resulting
the need foe more line. Are you wanting less effort on the traveler or the
mainsheet? You can ease traveler movements by easing the mainsheet first.
If getting sufficient mainsheet tension is the issue then consider a
