If the mast tip is off center with no tension on the standing rigging then there is problem with the partners (the place where it penetrates the deck) or a problem with the foot. The extruded piece of aluminum we call the mast should stand nearly perfectly straight and centered with no outside

You usually get a slower speed on one tack due to wave direction. One tack is always favored as you usually have the waves more head on. I use the Selden mast tuning method as it can be done on any boat without special tools. You just need a metric ruler to adjust the shroud tension.
