Singing Sage Thrasher yesterday morning near the NW corner of Trilby
and Taft, singing from the landfill property. Also, several Cassin's
Sparrows were singing in the drainage south of where Triby turns into
a dirt road. Nice large rabbitbrush and four-winged saltbush in this
drainage.

11 buildings. Has anyone been to Last Chance since the Fire? How did the

I am heading out to Last Chance shortly and will send a note
to Cobirds when I get back. I heard that the roads have
reopened.
Based on news reports, I think the motel in Last Chance has been
very destroyed, and it would be very unlikely that the oasis escaped.
The fire started along Highway 71,
Shortly before noon I observed a Tricolored Heron at the wildlife
preserve area of Crown Hill Regional Park. Water has dropped

Colorado birders,
Col. Richard Hayes (USAF, Ret.) and I had a great week in Colorado June

seeing failure of tree swallow nest attempts the past

I drove out there today, and my worst fears were realized. It was not a
heart-breaking sight, but
more like a punch to the gut. It was like turning the corner expecting to
run into a vivacious friend, but seeing
a skeleton instead. When a corpse is found, someone covers it with a sheet

explosion of flame crossed the front range in the west side of the city and a
mass evacuation is underway.
Visibility is so bad that we do not even know how bad things are. Smoke has
reached our home on the east
Bummer! Thanks for the report Joe.
