Hello, Birders.
The big snow we were supposed to get Thursday night was something of a dud; but
the light dusting we were supposed to get last night turned out to be a doozy.
So I went out this snowy Saturday morning, February 1, to see and hear the
birds at Waneka Lake and Greenlee Preserve,
Greetings Colorado birders:

Yesterday, mid-morning, while we were skiing in Lory State Park near Fort

Hello, Birders.
Earlier this week I received in the mail vol. 48, no. 1 (Winter 2014) of
COLORADO BIRDS, the quarterly journal of Colorado Field Ornithologists. It's
wonderful! Let's take a look:

We haven't had ANY Evening Grosbeaks this winter at our feeders. Since we
moved here 3 years ago, they occasionally dropped by to my delight. I
wonder if the floods have anything to do with this? There has been a lot of
unusual wildlife experiences here in Coal Creek Canyon this winter.

If you don't have Lapland Longspurs for the year, today was the time to get
them along the DIA Owl Loop. I would list all of the spots, but there were
too many. Everywhere along the route starting 1/2 mile east of Tower Rd on
96th Ave to 120th Ave just west of Haynesmount. Almost every
Thanks to Polly Neldner for hooking me up with the varied thrush in La Veta.
Unfortunately, the Harris's sparrow did not show up. The thrush was visible
for most of the hour that I was there between about 8:30 and 9:30.

So, my son and I were finally able to spot the Brant earlier this week in
Redstone park, after seven fruitless trips. Today, my son and I took a quick
swing through Chatfield to see what was happening.
Right as we were leaving the south entrance of the park, we both said at the

COBirders,
The Lifetime county lists are now available on the CFO website. I have
reintroduced bookmarks. They broke a few years ago when converting from one
version of office to another. Something that was fixable I just did not do it
at the time as I was not even sure anyone knew they
Had a beautiful adult male crash the junco party in my yard this afternoon.

Hello birders,
Beautiful snowscape at Walden and Sawhill Ponds this cloudy and cold
afternoon. Some smart visitors wore snowshoes, others cross country skis, I
made do in hiking boots. The marsh had that unusual quiet after snowfall,
muffled and peaceful. The scenery was completely
Today David Dowell, Mimi Chau, Tim Smart and I walked to stretches of the

Around the confluence with Sand Creek we had 1 Say's phoebe, 2 red-breasted
