Today, I finally was able to get better views of the Ross's Gull as he put on a
great show near the marina. It's been really fun seeing all the familiar faces
in the birding community enjoying this great bird! I was suprised to see not
only a Say's Phoebe but also a very late Spotted Sandpiper
Joe Roller and I had a great photo shoot with the Ross's gull today. A few
photos can be seen on my pbase site.

I agree with Glenn's call that this is an adult basic plumaged Ross's Gull. I
could not see the color of the birds legs - are they bright orange? Should
they be orange in basic plumage??

I expected someone else to post about the Ross's Gull so I didn't, but now I
shall. The bird was seen from Lake Loop by me personally for about an hour.
When I left it was still being seen. Once the fog burned off (i got there at 7
& it happened around around 9-930) was when we f

The Ross's Gull put in an appearance at 7 am as it flew along the dam and
landed on the sand spit near the pelicans. It stayed for 5 min and flew
over the marina, over Stehoviac's head at the lake loop and disappeared for
the next 2 1/2 hrs. Just as we were about to leave at 10 am, it h

the west marina sandbar and doing very little flying. It is windy at Cherry
Creek with waves washing up over the sandbar. Schmoker, Maynard and Wild also

the Colorado Ross's Gull reported as missing from Cherry Creek Reservoir

there and found the bird working the shoreline between the Lake Loop and

was there this morning after the fog lifted and was there when I left at 12:30
p.m.. With a bit of fog still in the air, the bird flew back into the

So I'm not one to go all sappy (bird reference), but being that I give
thanks only one day a year, I thought I'd do it here this year. I

I was there when the gizzard shad photo was taken, and I watched the bird
swallow that fish. Did it in mid-air, then settled down onto the water and

The Ross's Gull was seen at 6:30 AM today, when dawn's
early light brought out its pink color.
Also it is acting differently. It was on or near the sandbar near
the marina almost continuously, at least until I left at 9:00 AM. It was
