That's just it though. you can't "dumb down" the OS. but you
sure as hell can make is accessible for those of us that just
want to run some programs, do sys admin, etc. WITHOUT having
to run / compile / create / hack any kind of code whatsoever...
(well... not all at least
Ok, so what EXACTLY do I need to do?

See? this is exactly the kind of thing I shouldn't have to do to test this
software.
That is crazy! If I wanted that much terminal action, I wou
ed to download to do this? the full dir?
How do I go about this without burning a new CD?
Also. network install? I have cable, so it would be no problem.
Is there a doc on this?
Thanks in advance....

ntent to run WP or Star Office or netscape or (gasp!) GAMES.
Basically, Linux is like a DOS with a GUI. Tons more commands, and people
HATED DOS. hehehe
Look at the marketing hype on mandrake "Linux for the desktop" This is
where eveyrone wants to be.
hey, it's not like they are ever going to take away your terminal
screen.. are they?

"Should" and "Does" are 2 radically different things;
I've NEVER had Linux give me sound without tweaking. ANY version.

Thank god. lothar configged it really easy after i grabbed the
settings from in

no

This is the error i get when i try to restart my Apache

Anyone have any ideas? If recompiling is needed... how do i
manage this?

haven't received anything in a few days.
Is the list down?
Info on the web site still shows it being up... hmmm

then it
doesn't make the directories it says its going to.. and then even if
you put
files into the directories.. they don't show up. Apache still assumes
there is nothing there.
very odd. I've had both these problems both in my user account and in my root

the best distrib (mins

-licq is installed but appears neither in the KDE Internet menu or the
X apps Internet menu. While I'm at it, why not make a single menu for
both GTK, X and KDE apps? I mean, separating them is artificial at best
and may confuse new users.
Heheh I've done that one already..
%killall kdesud
It will likely give an error but it fixes the problem either way.
Enjoy.....

Whate are appropriate sizes for my HD? I have oxygen on my 3rd
partition. Diskdrake did this:
made a 600mb partition for the dist and about 64 ( I think ) for the swap
and I think about 600 for the home.
I find this odd. I modified it, made my swap 128 (to mach my ram) and
increased the r
know this is a small thing.. but for Linux (and mandrake) to take over
the desktop.. THIS MUST BE DONE.
Think about all the Windows users out there that would never ever be able to
find the
programs.
That is all for now!

"Auto Find" and search the users HDD for the proper subdir?
3. CD Rom install lnx4win: can't initialize the CD rom on boot. Maybe
because i have 2 CD's, dunno.
(i'm doubting this though.)
4. Solution: Mess with partitions and do a "real" install. Argg
installed but was not on any of my menus.
Retstarting didn't add it! doh! I had to manually browse to the
/usr/games/dir and execute it via a browser window. Darned command
prompt wouldn't work either! hahaha
