Hi,
Does the current kernel in cooker (2.4.4-6mdk) includes the ide-patch
from
Andre Hedrick at http://linux-ide.org ?
patch: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/ide-2.4.4/
Also for the 2.4.x kernel in cooker, what are the patches currently
applied
by Mandrake?
Cheers,
Fred
Hello,
If you add the line initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.4-6mdk.img to lilo.conf with
kernel-2.4.4-6mdk the 'hda' is found to be already mounted when e2fsck runs
as part of the boot sequence. The check fails and you end up at a 'repair'
prompt. Commenting out the initrd line and 2.4.4-6mdk boots nor

Made the mistake of installing it in my heretofore working 8.0 last
night.
Attempting to reboot with it gave "Loading 244-6 ESBDA too big".
Switched back to 2.4.3-20 (i.e. chose "linux" from lilo menu) and got
"Loading linux EBDA too big".
First time I ever saw that!!!

Colonel 2.4.4-5 installed fine but lieutenant nvidia doesn't go along with
him. He quotes all these obscure military regs about "unresolved symbol
errors".
The nvidia drivers work fine with plain vanilla Mandrake 8.0. However, with
any new kernel, including this one, I get these unresolved symb
Michael,
You may be having the same problem as I am on the network stuff. Here is
something you can try, it works for me:
1) cd /lib/modules/2.4.4-5mdk/pcmcia (or
/lib/modules/2.4.4-5mdk/kernel/drivers/net if you are not using pcmcia)
2) mkdir tmp
3) cp *.gz tmp
4) cd tmp
5) gunzip *.gz
6) mv *.

do you have logs of it?
What is your hardware?

Do you have the kernel-pcmcia-cs package with the same numbering as
the kernel?

yes, there are a couple things you need to do on your own. For some
reason the kernel rpm messes up the soft links in /bo
I had this problem with the 2.4.3 kernels, I had to recreate the
symlinks in /boot which were obvious what to create them to, then I had
to do a mkinitrd to recreate the initrd.img file in boot and created a
symlink to that, then I believe I needed to rerun lilo to rewrite the
boot sector, but
any particular way to install kernel 2.4.4-3mdk? I just used package
manager, it didn't call for any dependencies but now the machine won't start

That is strange:
bor@localhost% l /lib/modules
2.4.3-25mdk/ 2.4.3-27mdk/
I had just one problem with this kernel : it installed modules in
/lib/modules/2.4.4-1mdkenterprise, while depmod looked for habitual location
/lib/modules/2.4.4-1mdk

I attempted a compleat cooker install today (ca 6PM EDT) and couldn't
get past "10 minutes remaining"...so I then attempted a nominal one, and
was moderately successful. However, my problems about, "Strange, can't

Thanks - that was quick.
It installed almost perfectly.
The pcmcia utils do not seem to like the pcmcia modules in the gz form.
It works perfectly when you have un-gzipped modules in
/lib/modules/kern*../pcmcia/
