Konqueror file manger in root mode. It was very usefull for quick admin

Sounds like you are having the thumbnail problem, try --force installing
XFree86 and see if that helps.

I noticed something odd with my icon preview in konqueror, I have not been
getting them but I also have not been getting the crash handler for every
icon it tries to create. I rm'ed my .qt dir and now I am.
Anyone getting any closer to a solution on this annoyance?

I agree with you on some of this points. I had diffuculties to set web
navigator font to a correct value (for me), and changes don't apply to Kopete
which use KHTML ... maybe another "hidden functionnality", somewhere.

Seems that it used to be if I had konqueror open to a dir and created a new
file in some way (ie. mkdir,touch, etc...) the konqueror windows would update
reflecting the new changes - this doesn't happen any more. Also doesn't work
on the desktop.

If you type "ctrl+w" keys in konqueror, you close the current tab.
See where is the "x" key (just next w ;) and think you are editing a big mail
-> cut -> ctrl+w (oups) -> bye bye message, you have to retype all :(
Couldn't be Ctrl+maj+w or other for close current tab ?

This problem is related to the previously posted issues with MP3 and
MPEG files in Konqueror file-browser.
KDE 3.02 appears to have been better with this, but I do recall that KDE
3.03 was working fine at the beginning (under Cooker) for a short
while. They keep updating the kdebase/libs/etc so
I have similar crash in MDK 8.2 with KDE 3.0.3. Letting Konqueror start the
embedded player makes it crash, starting by right-click and select another
player works.
Here is my backtrace from Konqueror (although different):
