Look at the /usr/local/etc/courier/smtpaccess/default file.
Rather than enable an open relay and rely on some other
mechanism to stop abusive connections. Configure the list
of allowed IPs into this file. That way you will have
plan-A and plan-B protecting your mail server.

Since I can't change filenames, I actually got permisson to put a linux
box at our offsite location. An old P2 with a new 140G hard drive. Yea.

knew I made a mistake when I
installed FC2 on this box, but FC3 doesn't seem ready. I think I'll
stick with FC1 for a while longer.
It builds, it installs, I'm migrating config over from my old server and
setting up mailman/clam/etc so not completely running yet but so far so
failure /var/tmp/courier-0.47-1.2-buildroot/usr/local/bin has
a number of links in it to /usr/lib/courier/sbin and
/usr/lib/courier/bin utils like maildrop, reformail, etc. but of course
those files/dirs don't exist.

About 4:00 AM this morning esmtp stopped working. Can anyone give me any
ideas were to start. Users can login but anyone that tries to send the
connection times out. All files seem to start fine and when I tail the
syslog I see courieresmtpd, pop3d, and courierd. Everything I have checked
looks

Create a directory in /var/run with appropriate perms
to allow all of a packages .pid's to be created there.
FreeBSD puts bind's pids in /var/run/named so it can
run as an untrusted user and have some place to put its
pid file.

The POP3 protocol doesn't allow setting folder names. The only
way this can be acheived is through a hack.
You would be much better off getting an email client that uses
IMAP. What happens during the day when you want to look at
an email from yesterday?
Anyway try this hack. Create several accoun

delivery instructions to create the Maildir directory, if it
doesn't exist, before delivering the mail. To stop mbox files
being created for new accounts.

I'd like a way to disable the courier-mlm requirement that the subject
of confirmation messages be altered (by adding "yes"). I can't see what
added security this provides that is worth the penalty in ease of use.
