if you do not have a very large library.db, you could delete it (backup of
course) and then import your images. All the pertinent data is contained
within the accompanying xmp files.

It is not necessary to move or rename darktablerc when upgrading or
reinstalling dt,

~/.config/darktable/XXdarktablerc
if not, move the entire directory, ~/.config/darktable (to
~/.config/XXdarktable) and try again.
I do not have a mac and no experience there, am guessing the location of
darktablerc.

odd parameters?
check the timestamp on darktablerc
stat ~/.config/darktable/darktablerc
should display an access time that you last closed dt.
