I've installed the previous kernel 2.6.24 for a short time (removing 2.6.26) and then installed 2.6.26 again (removing 2.6.24). The result is that /dev/.static/dev has disappeared, and dpkg-reconfigure on anything that calls MAKEDEV produces .udevdb or .udev presence implies active udev.
