hang on a dialog box saying generating print data. Printing from other kde
based apps that I have tried ie. konqueror and kmail works fine

We have a Brother HL-1670N printer here attached to a Debian sid box. The
printer supports duplex printing.
I can't find out what is the correct way to control the duplex printing by
software (not by printer control panel).
In past, I used to use lpd + magicfilter. But I don't know how
Dennis and Cameron, thanks a lot for your suggestions. After unsuccessfully
trying several
configurations for the /etc/hosts file, I restored an old backup version. That
version worked like a charm
and fixed all the localhost and printing problems I was having.
