I, too, had a weather indicator on the panel (that one which comes with
the clock) which I cannot make working again in Natty with GNOME2
(Compiz), although I can see the weather information below the time zone
map when the clock is expanded - don't know if this is related, though.

There is no real workaround. The bug is random and restarting

Skype icon comes after kill the skype process and restart it, in my
natty x64. But postpone start (sleep a few seconds before launch skype)
doesn't work for me.
Seems lots of people using skype, hope fix this issue soon, though now
its MS skype.

I noticed that: if I run skype as first "iconized" application.. it
shows up. If I run pidgin before skype, then skype only appears if I
remove and add again the notification applet. If I run pidgin, shutter
and skype, skype icon doesn't appear no matter what I do. If then I
close shutter, remove n

I have the same thing with Eiskaltdc++ Qt.
It seems that this bug affects all QT applications which minimize to tray.
The workaround with "killall notification-area-applet" works, but it takes two
or three times to run the command for all the icons to appear in the tray
correctly.

Another workaround for this: Go to skype settings and check "start skype
in minimized mode". It works for me, the skype icon never was displayed
in 1 pixel size anymore.

I noticed something interesting: sometimes the system boots up very fast
(most of the times) and sometimes it takes a while (not just a little
longer but a lot longer). When the system boots fast I get 1 px icons
and when it takes its time it shows the icons correctly (both Skype and
Vlc). From wha
I use Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit on Ubuntu Classic interface.
Just unlocking the notification area and restarting skype caused the bug to go
away.

My problem happens on 11.04 amd64, Unity desktop. I installed Skype
through "Software Center". At the beginning, everything goes well.
After a long time use (maybe 1 or 2 hours, actually it's not long on my
machine), Skype icon in notification area disappears, but the process
is still running.

I think I found a solution.
The problem is the area dedicated to app icons: it is not resized
automatically, when a new icon comes (for instance skype's icon).
on the top panel:

Hey, I just switched from Windows to Ubuntu 12 hours ago so I might not
know what I am doing.
I also have the same problem with the 1 pixel icon in the panel so I
looked around and found this file. Run it in the terminal and select
restore panel to default. Now my skype icon is showing perfectly.
Drakej: I reported the bug like two or three weeks before the release so
they knew about it. It's just taking time to fix it, who knows how
complicated this may be? This is programming, sometimes you make great
progress in a small amount of time, other times you have a stupid bug
for weeks and cann

I don't get how they possibly missed this while testing 11.04 this issue
was one of the first things I noticed within 10 minutes of use. That and
the issue with multi display mode using ATI in Unity duping the gnome-
panel. Seriously these issues are making me think it's time to switch
distros for
killall gnome-panel or killall notification-area-applet (then reload
applet) will make the notification applet starts again.
But when you have more than 1 QT application ones have 1px icon and
others the regular icon. (psi, hp-systray, skype, ktorrent...)

Here's a crappy workaround for people on 'classic mode' that have the
problem.
Launch skype
Open applications - terminal, and type: killall gnome-panel
This fixes the problem for Skype and Shutter, not sure about other apps
that use the notification area.
