I've just tried SSHing into the server with the problem, running the
backup manually (/sbin/e-smith/backup) it worked!
Now I'm really confused. I'll see if tonights cron job works okay, if
so, I'll start looking for hardware problems.

Manually doing a small dump to tape (tar -cvf /dev/nst0 /etc) works
fine, but the 2am flexbackup job in cron fails, as does executing the
E-Smith backup script from the command line. The error message looks
like it's saying that buffer can't open /dev/nst0, but tar doesn't have
any such problem.

External SCSI should work. I'm using an external TR-4 SCSI drive
connected to an Adaptec AHA-1535 ISA controller, and it's mostly
