I made a couple typos while working with some freenet
URIs and I noticed that fred did not deal with that
very well.
Using a malformed URI gives the following error (with
stack trace ommited):
Couldn't retrieve key: SSK@kkjfkeal//

Indeed Oskar,
Obviously there is no value in a mechanism that would
allow fred to participate in a network off of the
internet. Also, all those damn leaching transient
nodes can rot in hell - screw them, if they don't want
to contribute to the network they don't deserve any of
it's protection.

No, actualy, that is what you would think it should do
but in fact it does not. If you check the patch, you
can see the code in question here. The code checked
for a key that started with SSK@ CHK@ and KSK@ but
had no provisions for freenet:SSK@ etc. I just added 3
lines that would allow freenet:

Is it a matter of coding the software then? Is the old
simulation software not up to par any more?

If Freenet Forever is really going to get removed I
sugest you replace it with The Index Index:
SSK@Pqb7VI1DhPl1kaB0p4-CJyFfUUcPAgM/TII//
It is a much beter way, IMNSHO, to organize the
freesites. Check out the freesite and read the

I would include a patch but I think it would take who
ever is going to fix it longer to apply the patch then
it would to type in the 20 characters that make up the

it easy as possible it is on line 586 of
