Hello I have a squeezebox in a 3rd story loft that during the day gets
extremely hot. Tempatures will often exceed 100F sometimes over 110.
I've noticed the unit itself is a bit warm even when turned off.
I can unplug this unit when its not in use if these tempatures are

badly burned with 6.2.1, but 6.2.2 seems stable (only three restarts
since release), so I'm not brave enough to use alpha/beta slim on my

1) What OS does the QNAP drive run (WinXP, Linux etc)?
2) Can the QNAP drive be backed up using something like Norton Ghost?
If so, would this back up everything on the drive (OS and music

I have two Linux based devices (the Qnap and a Nokia 770) and I know
nothing about Linux. It really isn't a problem. Copying music over,
once the Qnap is set up on your network, is done by drag and drop, cut
and paste, or ripping directly to the Qnap music directory instead of
your C:\ drive. The

The problem is that even though you can do a discrete on/off sequence
for the Squeezebox, 90% of components don't have them (like my TV, DVD
player, Cable Box, etc).
So unfortunately I think most users will resort to leaving everything
off or on and having a macro just to power their stuff up or

I like my Harmony 880 remote, but I disagree that it in any way solves problems with devices which don't have discrete on/off codes. It keeps track, but in my experience, often ends up out-of-sync with the devices which don't have discrete codes.

(running SlimServer Version: 6.2.2 - 7085 - Mac OS X 10.4.6 (8I127) -

One player is connected via its RCA outputs to a Behringer A500. The

difficult it is to drive the speaker. The lower the impedance the
less efficient it is (i.e. the more difficult it is to amplify). I'm

I have experimented with a few changes to improve the audio, ripping
some stuff to AIFF and then attempting to stream this wirelessly.
Basically it does not work. For 10 seconds it appears to work then
massive stutters that do not resolve. Pressing pause and then play
gives the same 10 seconds
I use uncompressed WAV without any problems

Even after regenerating the MusicIP cache with no archiving, I still
ended up with the strange squares in my tags when viewed from
Slimserver. If I disabled the MusicIP server and did a rescan, all the
tags are fine, but as
4-ohm loads, as Ksie mentions, are more difficult to amplify. To
produce a given volume, or sound pressure level (SPL), they need more
current. Small amplifiers are sometimes incapable of supplying the
current required and they will overheat and shutdown at higher SPLs.

I think lots of people do - I've been using uncompressed WAV for years,
to a mixture of SB1, 2 and 3. Even an 802.11b connection should be able
to run a couple of streams at once with no drop outs.
You need a good signal, so check the signal strength and add
amplification if it's not high
I've read that the remote does a poor job of tracking which components
are on/off as well, but I guess without discrete codes that's what you
get.
