well, i have to say i'm impressed with the sound and build etc. i'm no
audiophile but i can certainly hear more seperation in the sound and
not a din as such. i can have them louder and clearer but not making
such a racket if you know what i mean.

Obviously Your knowledge in VLC is much better than mine.
So with:

VLC takes the Dreambox Mpeg2 Audio stream and transcodes it and
makes it available as http stream
The Squeezebox Receiver and Controller will both have 2 year warranties
as well.

it, can you swap the problematic SB3 with one that has been working
fine? If the problem stays with the location, I think you might have a
reception issue at that location. Though it's odd that rebooting the
router rectifies

With some of the scanning and sorting oddities in SlimServer, I doubt
that you can get this to work as well as you'd like. Both would just
be Elvis Costello in my library. There are too many band name
variations like this, particularly with jazz artists, that I wouldn't

I am not very familiar with VLC but it looks like it is having problems
loading a http module. Possibly you have specified http twice in the
output.
so instead of
dst=std{access=http,mux=raw,dst=http://192.168.1.103:36000}
try

It should be automatic. Try logging out of Live365 and then back in via
the Squeezebox or SlimServer interface. The Live365 plugin has also
received a massive overhaul in the SqueezeCenter 7.0beta, which may be
worth a look. My experience and that of most here has been that it is
quite stable.

well I have VLC installed. I try now to fetch the HTTP stream from the
dreambox and stream it on port 1234 of the Vista box.
So fine so good. Options I am using:
VLC stream output:
Output: Play locally and http://192.168.1.103:1234
Encapsulation methode: ASF
Transcoding options: audio, mp3,
It's a little complicated as there actually -is- firmware available for
the non-L version 5 and upwards - but I don't know if it includes the
repeater code, and it's probably not worth $10 to figure that out.

I think output of Dreambox is mpeg-2 and not MP3 - so you will need

Both these logs seem to confirm that the URL is not responding to the
initial HTTP request.

According to many, a 9 band EQ is nearly useless for any kind of
corrections, and may cause phase problems. You're better off using the
Inguz correction/EQ server plugin.
