I take it you re-ripped the offending tracks after the change?
Sounds like WMP was applying DRM to your rips. Some versions of WMP do
this by default. There is no good reason for it, just a complete PITA
unless you know to turn it off.

this is to reduce the risk of fraud. I've spoken to a couple
of online retailers I know about this in the UK.
Amazon are an exception to this. They will take payment from a UK card
on the US site no problem and ship it to someone in the US or,
depending on the item, the UK too.

Yes the controller will mirror what youa are seeing in SqueezeCenter.
At the moment, there isn't a way to display artist artwork, but there
should still be an enhancement request for this. No idea if or when it
would be added, but it has been raised.

What about using a seperate tagging application rather than relying on
the ripper?
I use TagRename simply because I like the interface. I have no idea if
it is Unicode or not though. I'd be surprised if one of the many *many*
tagging apps couldn't do it for you.

Officially FLAC only has 8 compression levels.
So I'm not really surprised you were having problems, WinAmp is
obviously doing something quite weird or using an unnoficial version of
FLAC in its encoding.

Just to add more data to this, I can scan the library on my N5200 with
my Windows HTPC over gigabit (and no, it's not Cat6, which is not
_required_ for gigabit) is roughly the same amount of time as the
SqueezeCenter module on the N5200 itself.

Sounds like interesting technology, but you couldn't use it to compress
music, only to digitaly create it and then store the resulting dataset
to be re-created when needed.

Compaired to every other major release I've seen over the years, this
has been the least problematic.
Sure a few people have had minor problems, but not nearly the same as
when 6.5 was first released.
I would have to say this is the most stable a bug free initial release
ever.

You do get wireless deives to send audio, but i've not seen any that
work over wireless networks, they are usually just RF or any old 2.4GHz
signal (like cordless phones).

Neither the SB2/3 or SBR can act as an Access Point (connecting
wireless devices to a wired network), but they can be used as a
wireless bridge (connecting wred devices to a wired network).

at the transcoding options,
never needed to. And I'm not at home with my server so I can't check.
But if you leave ALAC to WAV checked and un-check the rest that will
produce the least procesing load on the server. It may still nto work,
but it will give you the best chance.

To help with processor load, you could turn off ALAC to FLAC transcoding
and just stream WAV, that would leave a lot more head room for running
SqueezeSlave or SoftSqueeze.

You don't need to use the bridging function for this.
All control is done though SqueezeCenter, just open a web browser and
point it to http://imac-ip-address:9000/ and you will get the web
interface from your iMac.

I've not heard of that being a particular issue, I use WPA security

You can get hard Nylon bladesfrom some electronic stores for boing this
kind of thing. far less likely to stratch or otherwise damage the
plastic casing.
